Upgrade StorageWord Unable to Communicate With Zotero

When I try to insert a citation into Office 365 on either my Mac desktop computer or laptop I get the following message:
"Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero is open and try again."
I installed Zotero 5.0.48. I installed the plug-in in Office 365. I made sure the Word integration plugin is enabled in Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions in Zotero. I restarted both the desktop and laptop.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Zotero
2. Start Microsoft Word/Office 365
3. Try to add/edit citation on the Zotero tab in Microsoft Word.
Zotero displays the message:
"Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero is open and try again."
