No Zotero save option & no automatic metadata retrieval!!

I got an automatic refersh of my Zotero 5.0 last week. No reason why.

NOW.... when I download Zotero only downloads the PDF, I have to manually ASK it to retrieve the metadata. Any idea what I do (plugin, setting, hop around the garden backwards?) to get the automatic metadata retreival working again?

I'm working on a dissertation and need to get this sorted ASAP :(

Is the problem the Zotero connector? I have been having problems as well with the icon greyed out when searching on my library site. Here is the link to my issues. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/68998/zotero-connector-malfunctioning#latest

There is no more Z icon on the Zotero save button, but it is still in your toolbar in both Firefox and Chrome (there is no Zotero extension for Edge).

To use Zotero 5.0, you need to install the Zotero desktop client app from http://zotero.org/download. You open this like any other program on your computer.

No, I'm pretty sure this is about the "Save to Zotero" option in the PDF save dialog. That's gone, I'm afraid. See under "Are there any features..." here https://www.zotero.org/blog/zotero-5-and-firefox-faq/
