Footnote numbering - Chicago 16 style and Microsoft Word 2003

When I generate footnotes in my Word 2003 documents using Zotero, the numbering differs from what Chicago 16 style guide calls for. They are raised and are missing the period afterwards, instead of being on the same level as the rest of the text with a period. Is there something that I have missed in being able to make the numbers appear correctly in my documents?
  • formatting of footnote characters is a Word setting (though IIRC one that's surprisingly hard to change). It's not something that Zotero can influence.
FWIW, Chicago tells you in 14.19 that:
(In manuscripts, superscripted numbers in both places—the typical default setting in the note-making feature of a word processor—are perfectly acceptable.)
