OK, I've confirmed together with fbennett that this issue is now fixed with the patch plugin he links to above and will be fixed in the next Zotero release if you don't want to use the plugin.

Has the fix described here survived in subsequent releases of Zotero? I have the same output problem described at the head of this discussion thread.
My workflow: I export from zotero as "Better CSL JSON" and use the current version of `chicago-fullnote-bibliography.csl` with pandoc-citeproc.
