Zotero Word plugin on macOS inserts {Citation} and duplicates bibliography

Hello,

I’m experiencing a persistent problem with the Zotero Word integration on my Mac. Zotero works correctly with Word on my Windows work computers, but not on my MacBook.

Problem:

When I insert a citation in a new, empty Word document, it initially appears as (1).

When I insert the bibliography using “Add/Edit Bibliography”, {Citation} appears.

When I refresh the document, the bibliography is duplicated.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

Completely reinstalled Zotero (version 10.0.6).

Reinstalled the Microsoft Word add-in.

Renamed Normal.dotm to test with a fresh Word template.

Confirmed that Zotero.dotm is present in the Word Startup folder and enabled under Word’s Templates and Add-ins.

Confirmed that the Word Startup folder has read and write permissions.

Confirmed that Word’s “Field codes instead of values” setting is disabled.

The problem persists in a new, empty Word document.

The citation field begins with ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION.

The bibliography field begins with ADDIN ZOTERO_BIBL.

Debug ID: D1031340381

Could you help me identify why the Word integration produces {Citation} and duplicates the bibliography on macOS?

Thank you!
  • When I refresh the document, the bibliography is duplicated.
Are you saying that each subsequent refresh inserts a new duplicate, or does it stabilize after that? What is the full version of Word that you are running?
