Explanatory Parentheticals

Is there a way to add an explanatory parenthetical through Zotero? I have been manually entering them, but as I edit my citations through Zotero, I am receiving a notification that I have altered the citation. If I keep the alteration, Zotero will not edit the citation moving forward...
