Importing .bib or .ris yields Error: The selected file is not in a supported format.

I have been getting the error message "The selected file is not in a supported format." When using the File>>Import command.

This happens with the following MREs:

zotero_test.bib
@article{smith2024,
author={John Smith},
title={Test Article},
journal={Journal of Testing},
year={2024}
}

test.ris
TY - JOUR
TI - Test Article
AU - Smith, John
PY - 2024
ER -

I've checked:
1. These are the true file extensions; there is no hidden .txt
2. I've reset Translators and Styles and restarted Zotero
3. Drag-and-drop yields the same error.

Any idea why this could be happening?

If you're on an old version of Zotero (e.g., Zotero 6), install the latest version from the download page.

Otherwise, provide a Report ID.
