ZoteroCiteLinker: Instantly Link Citations to Bibliography (New Ribbon Tab for MS Word)

edited 3 days ago
Hello everyone,

If you're like me and write long academic papers, you know how annoying it is to constantly scroll between your in-text citations (e.g., [1], (Author, 2020)) and the full reference in your bibliography. Especially when working with MS Word.

To solve this, I've compiled and heavily modified an open-source MS Word add-in called ZoteroCiteLinker. It adds a new "Zotero Cite Linker" tab directly to your Word Ribbon, giving you one-click control over your citations.

What it does:
Link All Citations: One click scans your document and links every Zotero citation to its matching entry in the bibliography.

Unlinking: A "Unlink Citations" button only removes the links created by this add-in. It won't break your Table of Contents or any other hyperlinks in your document.

Utility Tools: It includes extra buttons to find and activate all web URLs (http://) and email addresses (mailto:) in your document, turning them into clickable links.

Customize: You can change the color of all your citations (e.g., to blue, red, or back to black) or even apply a custom Word Character Style (like "Emphasis").

All the installation instructions and code are available on GitHub. I'm sharing it in case it's useful for your own workflow!
