Is there a way to stop the use of Ibid in MHRA 4th edition?

See the MHRA Style Guide, sect. 7.12 for this requirement. It would certainly be possible to create a variant without Ibid.

I think on balance that it might be safer not to include ibid. by default, since MHRA is specific about using it in limited circumstances. I've proposed moving it into an optional variant:

MHRA now will not provide ibid. by default but it is still available in a separate variant:
