Is there a Japanese translation of the documentation? (日本語訳の説明書はありますか?)

I am a Japanese who uses Zotero.
I know there are already discussions about the Japanese expression on the application, ex. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/22396/zoteroの日本語訳 but is there a Japanese translation of the official documentation or discussion about it?


The accuracy of machine translation is getting better every day, but every time I recommend using it to students who are not familiar with computers, I always wish there was a human translation of the documentation.

According to [start > third_party_documentation], there are two Non-English Documentation: Chinese and French. I would be happy if I could be involved in the translation project of the Japanese version.


My questions are

Q.1 Are there any existing Japanese translation projects (official or unofficial)?

Q.2 [start > adopt] says “Feel free to copy and repurpose any content (text, images, videos, etc.) from the Zotero website to help support and promote Zotero.”
Does this mean that I can post my personal translation of the documentation on my blog without getting permission from the official team?

Q.3 (Supposing the answer to Q.2 is yes,) [start > third_party_documentation] says “To request a change to this page, please post to the Zotero Forums.” Does this mean that I need to share the link in the forum in order to have my Japanese translation listed in [start > third_party_documentation]?

Q.4 If the answer to Q.2 is Yes, should I put a credit in the footer of the blog where I publish the Japanese translation?


I am very disappointed that few researchers and graduate students around me are using Zotero. I would be happy if I could contribute to making this useful tool more widely known to Japanese people.

    That's greatly appreciated but FWIW, we generally discourage manual translation in favor of machine translation, unless a team of people can really commit to keeping the translation up to date, with processes for doing so whenever the support wiki is modified. E.g., the French translation is maintained by multiple long-time contributors with a system for tracking every wiki update.

    We previously allowed non-English versions of the support pages, but we removed them due to their invariably becoming out of date. We write the documentation very carefully, often in direct response to confusion or feedback here, and the worry is that incomplete or outdated documentation would end up being more confusing for people than their simply translating the official documentation in their browser.

    (Machine translation to/from Asian languages has historically been worse than with Western languages, and I don't know the current state, but, as you say, it's undoubtedly getting better every day.)

    If you do attempt this, we strongly encourage including a link back to the official documentation so that people have the option of checking it for any updates or additional clarity.
