Endless Loop in Google Docs

For some reason, today, when adding a citation it would just go in an endless loop I could not stop.

See picture below. Zotero would use the find + search function of Google docs for the left parenthesis sign. It would occasionally ask me if I wanted to update a citation, and would otherwise keep on looping again.

Likely this, but with a "(" instead of a period:

This would happen if you edited a citation by accident to include only a "(" (or some other operation did that), and on Google Docs it has to scan the document for each instance of that character because of that. See what I say there to fix.
