PDF Metadata Retrieval hanging, tried several fixes

I'm having an issue with the PDF Metadata Retrieval hangs, no matter which PDF I try to retrieve metadata for. This happened quite suddenly; it seems to have been working yesterday and I'm not sure what has changed.

I see a number of old threads on issues of the PDF Metadata Retrieval hanging. e.g. this one from 2021 seems to be the most recent I could find: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/90750/progress-window-stuck-during-pdf-metadata-retrieval.

I tried restarting Zotero, restarting my computer, and resetting the translators in the Advanced → Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences. I checked that I have "Crossref Unixref XML.js" in the translators folder (it's 9KB).

My debug ID is D2106488987.

Any ideas?
