Zotero bad interraction with GeForce Experience.
Hi,
I'm currently writing a bachelor's thesis, and I'm new to Zotero.
Today my whole system seemed to be crashing when I opened Zotero, stuttering and freezing like I have never seen before. It took about 5-7 seconds each time, with the mouse pointer lagging and jumping around the screen as I moved it.
This post explains my experience perfectly:
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/81295/new-clean-first-time-install-of-zotero-is-lagging-so-much-that-its-unusable
Playing around with this lag, I noticed that it would start either when switching window or if any part of the mouse pointer even touched the Zotero window.
Opening task manager, I see that it mainly influences my GPU, freezing it, dropping it to zero, and then stabilizing. I always have GeForce Experience Instant Replay running on my desktop, which means my GPU is usually running at 16%, but whenever the cursor hits the Zotero window, the computer freezes and droppes the GPU to 0% for a few seconds.
Turning off GeForce Experience Instant Replay removes all issues.
I would love for someone to try to replicate this.
I also hope this helps someone. :)

- Start "Nvidia Control Panel"
- From the column on the left select "Manage 3D settings"
- Select "Program Settings" tab
- Next to "Select a program to customize" press "Add"
- Select Zotero on the list or use "Browse" to find it, then confirm with "Add Selected Program"
- From the box below "2. Specify the settings for this program", find "Monitor Technology" and select "Fixed Refresh".
- Press apply at the bottom of the screen
- (Re)start Zotero
I'd give it a try to see if it works with Instant Replay enabled.
