Zotfile 'rename and move' results in broken links to attachments with annotations

edited November 29, 2022
Hello,

I set up my Zotfile by following the instruction here: https://habr.com/en/post/443798/
Then I tried to move all my existing files into a custom path. Lots of files were renamed and moved correctly, but all files with Zotero annotations (not PDF annotations) failed to get moved. When I click on an individual entry and try to move them, I get the following error:

Zotfile Warning: Skipped attachments
Attachments skipped because they are top-level items, snapshots of the file does not exist.

I found a similar problem reported in this thread here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/35936/zotfile
But I still do not understand what I am exactly doing wrong here.

More seriously, I do not find those files that I have annotated within the existing path (the haphazardly organized directories with random code names created by Zotero by default). Is there a way to repair this mess somehow?
  • I can follow up on this by saying that for files that I downloaded separately (not using the web importer), just opening that file once revived the link and also annotations.
