[Feature request] Lack of store annotations in file is really unfortunate
I read the arguments about the lack of option to easily store annotations in file, and I understand that there are technical reasons that justify it; but overall it is unfortunately quite tedious in terms of UX and breaks workflow for people that use different PDF readers.
I agree with @adamsmith, @Darkluna, @madison437, @anhi0008, @ozelada, @jankap, @amysix, @va1984, @jerryplotnick in https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/406585#Comment_406585.
Here is the usecase :
Until Zotero PDF reader gets as efficient as Sioyek (https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/101257/fr-desktop-ios-improvements-of-pdf-reader-more-features-like-in-sioyek-pdf-reader), one could prefer to use Sioyek on desktop, and Zotero PDF reader on iPad (and sometimes on desktop, when exporting annotations to Obsidian for exemple, or adding "zone annotations" that only Zotero supports for now).
Annotations made in Sioyek can be embedded in the PDF so that they are available in Zotero. But annotations made in Zotero can't be easily embedded into current PDF (current workflow is really tedious), which breaks workflow such as :
Sioyek <->(iPad <->) Zotero <-> Obsidian.
Not sure how technically challenging this is, but I can't imagine the next steps without better cross PDF compatibility.
