Zotero google docs connector trouble when editing in "suggesting" mode

Uzing Zotero connector to google docs through Safari on MacOS.

When in "suggesting" mode the zotero menu item turns gray (unexplainable at first, but now I understand why), with no help text or something to explain what's happening.
The keyboard shortcut is still active, but either causes some crash or just not working.

Zotero is not able to insert citations into Google Docs in Suggestion mode. We'll add a tooltip to the disabled menu for clarity.
