You can keep the dark theme but switch it off for document content. This option is available under "View -> Use Dark Mode for Content".

Dark theme needs some revisions, I agree. Similar to Word, Zotero needs an option to keep the pages white. I don't know you, but for me, the current dark mode is useful only in a completely dark room
