Dark Mode upon installatioon and launch, but ...

after closing Zotero, I could never get it in Dark Mode again when opening Zotero from then on (I'm using latest beta as of 2/21/2025) - anyone have a solution for this?
  • What exactly do you mean by that? What exactly are you trying?
  • Immediately when the initial installation finishes, Zotero opens right away (due to checkbox enablement) - so far so good - at first open, everything looks great - the entire app is in dark mode and I can see all the menu items etc.

After I close Zotero, the next time I open it, everything is glaring white - cannot make out anything - if I am unable to fix this somehow, I will not be able to use Zotero - btw, all other apps in my windows 11 environment open in dark mode just fine.

In case it's relevent, my machine is a MinisForum UM690 Pro with 64 GB of DDR5 Ram and a 1 TB NVME PCI drive. This system has an integrated GPU (Radeon) and the processor is a Ryzen 9.

    any ideas?
  • 1. Open Zotero preferences, and under General -> Appearance and Language, check what Color Scheme is set to. If it's Automatic, change it to Dark and see if that changes anything.

    2. Restart in Troubleshooting Mode (Help -> Restart in Troubleshooting Mode...), which disables all plugins temporarily.
  • everything is glaring white - cannot make out anything
But what does this mean? Are you just saying it's in light mode, or are you saying it's not rendering properly? Can you provide a screenshot?

If it's not rendering properly, that would be some issue with your graphics driver, and you might try updating your graphics driver. Troubleshooting Mode also disables hardware acceleration, so see if that helps.
  • I aam unable to findd Zotero Preferences - where is it?
