The zotero.org web library generally works well. Also look at Zotfile for a way to send files back and forth to your tablet.

You could use the Zotfile plugin (zotfile.com) to mass convert the the PDF copies into links and push all the files to the external drive.

sorry if that wasn't clear: I understood what the issue was, I just don't have anything helpful to add. I think there is a bug with the ZotFile PDF links outside of Mac and IIRC Joscha is aware of it.

Clicking on the hyperlinks in the notes section created/populated by ZotFile does not actually open the PDF let alone the PDF to the right page!
