I had to refresh my computer and lost my entire Zotero library. I want to import bibliographies from Word documents I've used Zotero in. I created a tool, "Reference Extractor", to quickly extract embedded Zotero references from .docx Word documents…

So, I quickly threw together a website to extract embedded Zotero references from MS Word .docx files and export them as CSL JSON: http://rintze.zelle.me/ref-extractor/ (code at https://github.com/rmzelle/ref-extractor) The exported CSL JSON file c…

Speaking about UTF-8, it is correct and desirable that CSL JSON is exported as "us-ascii" instead of "utf-8"? When I export an item to CSL JSON in Zotero, and check on it on macOS, I get: $ file --mime '''ExportedZ.json''' ExportedZ.json: text/pla…

@fbennett, did the fix make it into citeproc-js yet? (seems to be holding back https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/1878#issuecomment-193296610)

And, also in that thread, Zotero developer Dan Stillman agrees that it would be better to allow webpage items to be created via the "New Item" menu, if there was a (cancellable) warning that there are often better ways to create an item for webpages…
-
This was done intentionally, because the Zotero developer(s) argue that in the vast majority of cases, people would be better off creating web page items directly from the page they're visiting in the browser, instead of creating a new webpage item …

I don't think there's anything we can do about that. Couldn't the Google Scholar translator give a more descriptive error message, though? Like: "... \n Google often temporarily blocks access after high-volume metadata lookups.". Or aren't error mes…

I've been playing around with https://github.com/mwilliamson/mammoth.js a little, and it looks relatively easy to create a website where users can upload a docx file, and have it extract the contents of all Zotero fields (data from bookmarks seems h…

@EMKVKS, @adamsmith fixed this style, as well as the 46 others that had the same problem: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/commit/69cd543a65403f7a62339794703d3e7137187c77 Your style should auto-update within 24 hours, or you can in…

@fcheslack, while slightly humorous, the forums shouldn't convert "D:" in code blocks to smileys.

Try pressing Alt-F9 on Windows or Option-F9 (or Option-Function-9) on OS X. This should switching between the raw field code and regular view. See e.g. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Insert-and-format-field-codes-in-Word-2010-7e9ea3b4-83ec…

I don't see the 'participated discussions' option. Are you logged in at the top of the page? I didn't see it either, but it looked like I was logged into the forums but not into the Zotero website somehow (I could post, but the top of the page said …

I think I'll start now developing in Electron. Well, it might be hard developing plugins for Electron-based Zotero right now as there isn't yet a development version of Electron-based Zotero available :). My main point was that it might not be worth…
-
@dragonfly, and even the days of the current XUL-based plugins for Zotero Standalone are numbered, since it's been announced that the next big version after Zotero 5.0 will use a very different foundation (Electron, instead of Firefox/XUL).

the option to receive notifications for everything (all new discussions and comments) no longer exists. (people interested in this can just subscribe to https://forums.zotero.org/ with an RSS reader)

(note to @adamsmith, maybe you could point to, or copy from, http://docs.citationstyles.org/en/stable/primer.html#citation-formats)

Given how much spam I've started to receive after publishing just one paper as a corresponding author ("please visit our conference", "please publish in our journal"), I'm not sure making email address harvesting even easier is a good idea. (@dbelve…

Also, the search box placeholders are inconsistent. https://www.zotero.org/ and https://www.zotero.org/getinvolved/ both say "Search support", while https://www.zotero.org/support/ says "Search documentation". But they all three perform the same se…

While we're at it, I find the presence of both the "Search" link in the sidebar and the searchbox at the top slightly unnerving (https://www.fastcompany.com/3031364/the-future-of-work/why-having-too-many-choices-is-making-you-unhappy). Is it necess…

(Dan, https://www.zotero.org/support/4.0_changelog#changes_in_402914_september_20_2016 should probably say "1.1.131" for 4.0.29.14)
-
(Dan, any reason Standalone for Windows is stuck at 4.0.29.10? I'd like to have the latest citeproc-js in stable)
-
That works, I guess . Still very interested in your thoughts on how you'll implement custom fields. I guess it's fine if they're (at least initially) not hooked up to anything in CSL?
-
The forums have recently been updated and no longer have subcategories. (and I just updated https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/wiki/Requesting-Styles#new-styles to reflect that)

We're planning to expand the built-in fields early next year Dan, I think I asked a few times for more detail on this but never heard back. I'm still wondering if you think we should coordinate a bit more on this between Zotero and CSL. Will you jus…

Yeah, sorry, I shouldn't have written "only". I meant that these were the links in my library that didn't show a publisher-specific translator.
-
Semi-relatedly, though, do we have a sense for how often DOI actually produces a result for the current page (rather than cited items) when no other translator triggers? In my experience (I have 35 items with Library Catalog = "CrossRef" in a librar…
