Simon, It seems like the problem vanished when I tried recreating it. The same steps now produce a different result. I get the document preferences window and after I hit 'OK', the field codes are removed. Last time, I repeated my steps multiple tim…

aurimas, the benefits to me are consistency with my file system and (probably) less issues when backing up and restoring the database. I save all my web pages as .mht and thus having the same system within Zotero is desirable. I also back up my…

Hmmm... how about providing an option in Preferences between using current scheme, MHT, and MAF?
-
adam, referring to your comment from Feb 16th 2012 "dtoy - yes, that works well. I use that strategy myself." So, a year and a half later, any tips or warnings for someone who wants to do use the same strategy -> use Zotero Firefox (ZFF) whe…

Please omit above comment. I repeated the steps exactly as listed above and it worked fine. It seems the first time around I had inserted a blank space in the text for the field, which was causing the problems.

A small step for adamsmith, a giant leap for gurdas. While trying to add the edited style to Zotero, I am getting a warning which may be harmless, but I'd like to check before I commit. I started by copying the original "American Chemical Society …

Dan, Q 6 and 7.

Is this something I could hope to fix by editing the CSL?
-
In the Style output, "volume" is in italics but "issue" is not in italics. This example is volume 42, issue 21. Hopefully, someone can provide the edited code which I can copy paste (with indentations fixed).
-
So, I tried editing the CSL for American Chemical Society (with titles, no "et al.") but could not make it work given my ignorance of CSL coding. I was able to locate the section in the code that seems like where the edit should be such that, for jo…

8. I probably will not fall in the "adding and deleting many large files" group. However, I am converting from the old scheme of attaching PDFs to the new scheme of attaching links (I then delete Zotero's PDF copy). I'd say about 300 odd PDFs to go …

Adam and Dan, 1. Okay, will do. I now have a long lists of will dos, which I will get to after the current phase of writing. 2. Okay. My interim solution is to add the date to the title of the page "... (Nov2013)". This is good enough for …

Having thought about this some more, I am now pretty sure that including issue number in the ACS style guide (and ES&T and all connected guides) is the better approach unless Zotero has a field that catches whether each issue starts from page 1.…
-
Perfect! So, with bated breath, how long before we get 4.2?
-
Adam, I would go with including the issue number and here's why: 1. ES&T says issue number is helpful but not mandatory, but then never says you should not. So, most authors I follow tend to include issue number (more is better approach). …

Okay, thanks.

Any update or plans to include item type "Standard"? I was trying to add standards by SAE and ISO and none of the existing item types fit the bill. Just wondering if this issue is active or cold. Or, have other users have found a decent work around?
-
Adam, I am having trouble understanding your comment. Are you saying the http://papers.sae.org/2002-01-2311 link by dustynrobots is a report and not a paper? Further, are you saying the next Zotero update will have DOIs for reports?
-
Adam, Thanks for the prompt and useful replies. 1. Great, I'm up for it. Will return if I have questions. 2. "we can't solve this without manual interaction". Not sure what you mean. Is there a feature/button I can use to tell Zotero to "i…

Adam, I ended up looking at the CSL styles and would like to take a shot at fixing these issues myself (and then update the online versions). How does the system ensure what I update has not broken other things? I'll post the information you request…
-
Adam, thanks. I can certainly add examples from the journal style guide or a published paper. I'll be back :)
-
Thanks, Dan, for creating a ticket. I'll update this thread if I see other behaviors on this issue. I must say the speed and response on these forums vindicates my believe in Zotero. I've become a missionary of sorts, converting colleagues over.
-
Aha, I knew Unfiled is not a Collection but did not know it is not expected to refresh instantly. I guess that answers it for now. If I see the behavior in other Collections (I think I did but am not sure now), I'll update this thread.
-
Adam, thanks. I think working within Report type should be okay for now. I tried exporting bibliography for the styles I use and having the version number in the Title still seems best. For some styles (such as Environ. Sc. & Tech) having Report…
-
I have the same issue. Did you/anyone find a good solution to SAE Technical Papers? I am currently using 'Report' or 'Conference Paper', but neither is a good solution.
-
I am moving from the old scheme of attaching file to attaching links. Need to find entries that have files attached, so that I may update them.
-
Adam, I too prefer Report over Document, having tried both initially. If 'Report' had fields or a field for Product and Version information, it works for most instances. Presently, I am adding product and version information to the Title in a 'Repor…

Windows 7 inbuilt search is very powerful. Make sure you have the iFilter plugin installed in Windows. iFilter is provided by Adobe and with Acrobat 10 (or 11) onwards is autoinstalled for 32-bit Windows. However, for 64-bit Windows, you may have to…

Adam, yes, this is entirely a display issue. I'll try disabling other add-ons and report back. Dan, Okay. I paid more attention to this issue last night and observed it occurs more often when I am in the Unfiled Items "collection". It does no…

Forgot to specify my environment. Using Zotero (4.0.16) with Firefox (25.0) on Windows 7 64-bit and Word 2010 32-bit.
