It looks like I couldn't see it right in front of me. Instead of being "Zotero" in the OO View-Toolbars dropdown,(as it was before I updated) it is listed as "Add-on 1". As soon as I clicked on this the Zotero toobar apeared. Anyway it is there…

That's correct. However along with the message that it was successfully installed, there was (anomalously) the yellow triangle with an exclamation sign in it indicating - presumably - an error of some kind.
