Good tip, thanks. Researchgate seems to have changed things so you can't view pdf in browser directly, but you get a way to view it their way in a sub-window (pane). Perhaps trying to control their users. But the other ways you suggest are effectiv…

OK, then dragging the pdf to top level first, and then retrieving it's metadata, does work. The previous incomplete entry can then be sent to trash. Thanks, will just remember to repair things that way from now on. Nor sure either how it happened. …
