@Rintze: Removing the quotes, in other words. Got it, and that helps the clutter. Formatting apparently isn't possible in a simple XUL menu, so highlighting and whatnot (which would probably have made things worse anyway) is out. I'll take another s…

Sort-order for the full name would be very clear with aligned columns, but with jagged layout it seems a little cluttered, at least for someone encountering the issue for the first time. Would a decoration hint with normal ordering work to distingu…

I have proof-of-concept code for name particle UI support running in a trial build of Zotero. To save the trouble of installing the client build for testing, I've made a short screencast that takes it through its paces. Please click and view. I'm c…

It can be done with a plugin. Bluebook Signals has code for ctrl-i -> italics that could be used as a starting point. IIRC the bootstrap loader for that one is more complex than it needs to be. The bootstrap.js in the Abbreviation Filter is more…

Thanks. (1) is a bug. (2) "von van" is not a listed particle, so "van" as NDP is expected. (3) is a bug. (4) is a bug. I'll take a look, although the current parser will have a limited life expectancy. In the parser for the UI code I'm building wi…

Ouch. Now fixed in the processor patch plugins.

Ah, sorry, there should be Linux install notes. The build.sh script is not relevant (I will remove it from future releases). Until Linux packages are available, the way to install will be to move the unpacked archive it a desired location (such as …

I submitted one of them for kicks, and it passed automatic validation. The validator returns three copies of the plugin, one each for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. I have yet to check whether they are identical - if not, then I'll have to do some wor…

David, I'll carry forward with implementing the UI-support idea, although it may be unlikely to make it into Zotero in the short term.
-
aurimas, that all sounds right (apart from my feeling that #2 is useful, but at 3-1, I'll call it quits). (Edit: by "discoverable," Rintze and I were talking about the discoverability of the particle-editing support menu, not of the particles thems…

David, Yes, where publisher metadata is awry, entries will need to be fixed manually after download, and the user will need domain-specific knowledge when choosing among alternatives - we all agree that the processor can't automate the choices, and…

Thanks everyone for the careful reading. Here's the commit so far. (I missed adding the definition for either_2_dropping_best etc, that's in a later commit - hope the meaning is clear, though.) @Rintze, I don't think partnering it with swap-names w…

Yes, that's the normal behaviour, but some styles require the upper-casing of the first word of the title, in sentence-case. This thread is about an (apparently misbehaving) alternative version of the processor, installed via a plugin, that is avail…

I've made those changes now. The following are gone: "mac" "pietro" "saint" "sainte" "st." "ste." The Dutch particles linked by Rintze have been added, and duplicates resolved. The list is alphabetized by particle.

To get the latest, you can install the Propachi Vanilla processor patch plugin. It should work with Zotero or Standalone (I just tested it in Zotero for Firefox to be sure it's working there). If you hit any other anomalies, let us know.
-
Ah, that could be relevant. What I mean by a "clean start" is to put the plugins into the state you want them (removing 1.0.9, enabling the new one), then stopping Firefox completely, and starting it again. The reason for suggesting that is the bug…

(Oops, wrong style, sorry. But that's the general story.)

It's this: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/given_name_disambiguation For APA, check each of the items cited that have the affected name as the first-listed author. If the names entered refer to the same person but differ in any way, set them to b…

@Rintze, The parser in citeproc-js is still using list-based parsing, but we're all agreed concerning capitalization. The adjustments for listed-particle case-sensitivity (to limit recognition to lowercase particles in most cases) case-insensitivit…

I've re-tested, and it's working here. There are the conditions for capitalization: (1) Test from a clean start of Firefox; (2) The style does not apply text case to titles (obviously); (3) The colon separating the title from the subtitle is not pr…

Pull requests are always welcome, of course! I can fix the sorting tomorrow if it's a headache; I have a script for it that just needs a tweak to the keys. If there are issues about specific changes, we can discuss in the comments. I agree that m…

The plugin code is from Zotero, so if there are any anomalies from that particular code, they should turn up in the official distribution. Looking good so far. The next interesting watershed will be the arrival of Zotero 5.0, which will have a lot …

For reference, the tip. (Zotero is currently loading the citeproc-js module to pre-parse names, and turning it off in the processor.)

I have some draft code running for the UI that looks promising. It allows the user to toggle through the permutations of a name with particles by pressing Alt-p in a surname field opened for editing. It needs some more work—it currently only recogni…

I've revised the Windows client. If you reinstall with the latest, it should work without the fix. (I think.)

The problem with "Li" should be fixed in the latest CSL processor, I think. You can try it by installing the Propachi Vanilla patch plugin. You really should be using MLZ, though (now Juris-M). You can try it out by installing the client—it won't a…

Excellent, thanks! So the culprit was the app name. It's been fixed in the Linux and Mac releases, I'm about to go in to school to rebuild the Windows version.

(A further thing to try might be to remove the macro plugin from Word, and then reinstall from Cite preferences. That was reported to have helped in a similar case.)

Just two thoughts so far. The first is just to check the Knowledge Base page on the error (which you may already have done, but just in case): https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#communication_error_or_non-respons…

Bruce, Which OS are you using? (Ah, sorry, Windows - it was nearly cut off in the subject line.) I assume that you have tried reinstalling the plugin to Word via the button in Preferences -> Cite?
