Since this area is still unclear, we're going to move slowly -- our goal with Zotero is to fill scholars' needs for bibliography and citation. The standards really haven't taken shape yet, so a single "Format" field may be all that we can do at this…

So reviewed author is currently just ignored?
-
There is a proposal to add a "Format" field to the Book and Book Section item types, with an eye towards addressing the e-book issue. See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/15636/#Item_17
-
It appears that the book review discussion had been overlooked in preparing the proposal. Fortunately, the thread has been revived. In that thread, erazlogo wrote: The easiest way to add book reviews is to add "reviewed title" field and "reviewed au…

I think that erazlogo's proposal should be workable: The easiest way to add book reviews is to add "reviewed title" field and "reviewed author"/"reviewed editor" author types to all article item types--this allows for correct bibliographic formattin…

The first one will certainly be addressed in the batch of data model changes for Zotero 2.1. It's hard to believe that this was overlooked for so long.
-
@Rintze & adamsmith: I agree that Format should be added to Book/Book Section -- but I worry that we might need to add it to even more formats. I went ahead and added it to the whiteboard.
-
@wpwend42: Since I told you on Twitter to post here, I ought to be more clear. Zotero's data model is built around ways we record metadata about publications and other produced or performed works. I'm not sure what problems you currently are having …

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not going to research this myself and look at that book. I'm trying to understand what we can do to make Zotero work for researchers like you, and I still don't know what kind of fields are you talking a…

Note that adamsmith didn't say that customized item types are a natural stage in Zotero's evolution-- that was John. Customized item types won't happen. I still have very little idea _what_ you are trying to put into Zotero. The current types are m…

Note that the Simple Style Generator is never a good idea. It is known to produce invalid CSL, and the code it produces is inefficient and hard to maintain. The only good way to edit CSL at present is to work with the code directly, usually by modif…
-
That said, the details of hyperlinking are outside the scope of CSL. This is the sort of thing that should be applied to generated bibliographies-- so I still think you should do this by post-processing the generated bibliographies. You may also wan…

CSL 1.0 is in the Zotero 2.1 betas. The betas are already stable enough for non-mission-critical use.
-
Don't use export for this. If all your data are in your local Zotero install (the pane at the bottom), you can set the credentials in the sync preferences to the correct ones, and to a Reset To Server in the Reset section of the sync preferences.

Judging from the examples given in the citeproc-js manual and the multilingual Zotero page (http://gsl-nagoya-u.net/http/pub/zotero-multilingual-overview.html#multilingual-citations), it looks like this should be possible already. Do you have check…

If it's on a live webpage, you can manipulated the Zotero-generated bibliography in JavaScript to get what you're looking for. Personally, I agree completely with you here. It would be great to be able to tell Zotero to link a certain field using th…

See http://gsl-nagoya-u.net/http/pub/citeproc-doc.html#id36 for the way this is currently determined. Judging from that page, I think that displaying multiple versions of author names is currently not supported. I think that the range of translitera…

There has been a semi-frequently expressed to desire to make 'document' as generic as possible. That is somewhat better-reflected in ticket 867 than the whiteboard. To make a strong generic type, should document just have every field possible? I wou…

Honestly, if we can't nail down meaningful data that ought to be kept on datasets, or if they are treated as books, articles, etc., then there shouldn't be a dataset item type in Zotero, because it follows that datasets are not a coherent category, …

I can't confirm any of these outright failures. I'm going to need details from the error reports (Dan?) to work on this. Based on similar comments by adamsmith at http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/15140/, it sounds like a funny interaction with p…

This has now been committed to the repository (https://www.zotero.org/trac/changeset/7512) and will be in the next version of Zotero, or when Dan pushes it to clients. In the meantime, people with this problem can install the updated version from Gi…

This was reported and fixed here. http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/15140/ You can install the fixed version as described in that thread, or wait for the fix to be pushed to clients.

What if you put the short name in Library Catalog? I don't think CSL can display the text of one field (Library Catalog) as a link with a URL from another field (URL), but you will have to do some post-processing anyway for your online bibliography,…
-
Enter the name in Zotero as last name "Witherington", first name "Ben, III" That should work, at least in the Zotero 2.1 betas. I'm not sure how it works in the 2.0.x series (the stable versions).
-
Can you provide a sample URL? I haven't heard of this happening frequently, but some sites do break when we try to snapshot them.
-
- I like the dataset type Then can you help to fill out the set of fields we'd need for such a type? I really don't know what the type will need.
-
Yes, it would be nice. See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/42 for the first discussion of this, a good 15,600 discussions threads ago. It hasn't happened yet, but there's no doubt that this is a known issue, and everyone is hoping that it will b…

It looks like the culprit is SpringerLink -- their DOI 10.1023/A:1009841817245 resolves correctly, but Zotero can't import the data they have put in the CrossRef database because they omitted an article title. I encourage you to report this missing…

If you isolate a DOI that gives an error, let us know. Otherwise, glad to hear that this is working for you.
-
David: First of all, see this thread on Ovid (http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/13953) -- we don't currently support it, and it might not happen for a while yet. Still, it should still work to save a DOI if there is one on the page. Can you post t…
