  • Well, Ctrl-Z is taken by the generic undo function already. You can use the zotero://fullscreen address to open Zotero for now.
  • The problem with that item seems to be in how the Zotero RIS translator parses the RIS data that it gets from Informaworld: (4)(+0000679): Translate: RT Journal JF GFF T1 New exposures of Baltic Ice Lake drainage sediments, Götene, Sweden PB Taylor …
  • Have you emptied the trash in Zotero?
  • That sounds like a good use case for tags (http://www.zotero.org/support/tags). edit: I see that Frank is faster than I am in responding to Zotero forum notifications.
  • It appears that they have implemented unAPI, and it works: http://resource.library.utoronto.ca/zotero/zotero.cfm?id=5102149&format=RIS-UTF8 Unfortunately, Zotero isn't handing it correctly... I don't know yet why.
  • For seemingly odd item types that you are trying to handle, consider (1) what pieces of data you would like to maintain for them and (2) what you would like them to look like when cited. Remarkably many types of items boil down to essentially the ty…
  • Yes -- you at least would have to reload the page before the new translator would work.
  • Well, that URL works for me using the updated translator. I believe you put the downloaded translator file in the wrong place-- please put it in the translators directory and try again.
  • If the test pages at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml and http://javatester.org/version.html don't work, then I imagine it's still a Java problem... Can you reinstall Java (is that possible in OS X?)?

  • Glad to hear that.
  • That sounds like a temporary file. Try searching for "~$Zotero.dot" and moving that file to another directory. My hunch is that the error will disappear. If Zotero stops working, put the file back and we'll try something else.
  • You will need to save the file to the translators folder inside your Zotero data directory. If it still doesn't work, please post the URL that you can't save. @Dan, could you look at the error report and see if this is just an issue with attaching…
  • Try the "Old Catalog Interface" -- does it work for you?
  • You could probably look in the debug output and search for the error message. The name of the directory causing the problem was likely right by the error message.
  • This was due to a very small change in the Informaworld PDF link location. Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/Informaworld.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.…
  • I wonder if a couple of these proposed algorithms could be implemented using Kieren's zotero-browser approach to accessing Zotero data (http://github.com/singingfish/zotero-browser), to see how effective they are. Kieren: Would you want to try some…
  • Is there a reason you are paying attention to the sync indicator? If you've updated to Zotero 2.0.3, then there should be no negative effects of having a running sync. Just pay no mind -- syncs go through. Don't worry about it. If something doesn't …
  • Well, give it a try. If you can't get it to work on the Mac (and I doubt it will), then try to get your XML file to a PC and try to convert it there. This is mainly a limitation of Word; they haven't done much to make their bibliography system inte…
  • Take heart in knowing that future uploads will generally not take long. When things are working, and they generally do work, you can just ignore the sync status and trust that your data is fairly well-maintained online. The slow sync were only a rea…
  • I think Ben's intuition should be Zotero's behavior, actually. Why shouldn't a search run with a tag selected search within the attachments and notes of an item that matches the tag selected? Such behavior strikes me as most logical; the association…
  • Perhaps something like this could be done on Zotero.org in group libraries... I'm imagining a system in which an item in the library could have an associated discussion. Perhaps that discussion could then be available as read-only notes in the Zote…
  • Also, if there are specific types of data that you're having trouble modeling using the existing Zotero item types and fields, please post-- people here have managed to model a remarkable range of materials using the existing types.
  • There is no customizable item type, largely for data portability reasons. People have generally found the item types in Zotero flexibly enough for most purposes, with soime limitations that are slowly being worked out. This may mean that you will n…
  • Odd. I have never seen this. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, but I was using 9.10 until several weeks ago. Firefox 3.6.x and Zotero 2.0.x. Are you certain that Firefox is really hung (i.e., if you wait 2 hours, does it finish?)? Can you replicate this ever…
  • Per 2, I understand your frustration. I try to keep the maximum amount of date data in the date field (meaning sometimes pre-1918 Julian, sometimes Hijra dates, sometimes even both). This does cause issues for automatic bibliography generation, but …
  • Looking quickly at one such article (http://www.mrw.interscience.wiley.com/cochrane/clsysrev/articles/CD005992/frame.html), I get a result using the DOI translator. Using http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/14651858.CD005992.pub2, I am redirected to the corr…
  • See https://api.zotero.org/groups/12345/items/122694169/tags for tags, per Dan's comment. My reference to "specific tags" was because you seemed dissatisfied with having the markup used in the API results, even though it was easily traversed with b…
  • You are looking in the right place. Not all data is currently available via api.zotero.org, but more is likely to be added. While you may not particularly like the format that Zotero uses to create its item feeds, it is regular and can be processed…
  • Well, this is more a flaw in the silly 2009 MLA style guide. URLs are great -- they can eliminate the confusion of searching for a source in a hard-to-navigate site. Domain names are trivially derived from the name of the publication, so there is ab…
  • Well, those disciplines are necessarily limited in number. Every group is a bad fit for its disciplines-- since people are more likely to find your group via search than by browsing, just make sure that it has an informative name and description. Th…
