My lesson learned from this is: Keep my secondary sources in Zotero, not my primaries. It is ironic seeing that this Zotero seems to have been started by historians.
-
Is there perhaps another field I could put the archive number into that would make it appear in every instance? If not, this ought to be changed, because in this case, Chicago clearly goes against Chicago rules.
-
I had the same question, too. Is there a guide somewhere to shortcuts like this within the new word processor interface?
-
adamsith: thanks for all your help, by the way. I looked around but couldn't find an explanation for how Z 3.0 works differently in terms of manually editing notes in Word. Is there somewhere on the site that explains that? Is it not still…
-
What about, like the "suppress author" box, a box for "force full note"? Is there any way now to force full note? Archive number is in full note, but not brief note. I have other circumstances where I would prefer a particular brief note…

Is there a way to make Zotero think one Word document is multiple Word documents? Bibiography isn't an issue because I'm making the bibliography from a zotero folder, not from what's in the document. I'd rather have the dissertation look sloppy…

What do you suggest I do when, on a computer I haven't used in a while, I open firefox and find my library, never having been synced there, and zotero 1.0?
-
Dan, weren't you advising me to sync rather than use a flash drive? I'm trying to sync with all the computers I use, rather than using a flash drive. Some of the computers still have 1.0, and I want to avoid doubling.
-
Thanks for helping me through this. For future reference for long documents, my process of upgrading one chapter at a time seems effective.
-
Right, that is my experience. I was transferring around a 1.0 library and upgrading it on various computers. So if I sit down at a computer with 1.0 on it, I should avoid upgrading it, right? And if I sit down at a computer without zotero…
-
Dan, I'm sorry, but I absolutely have not exported or imported items, and my library has doubled (twice so far today). It happens when someone syncs his library with another computer that had his library on it, but had not been synced. None of the i…

This seems to be working for saving codes. Perhaps there ought to be a warning in the box with the code updating that says "you must finish this process for the entire document for anything to be changed." My problem with syncing perhaps ought…
-
Of course the version in which I broke the links only has the new codes, while the version in which I used zotero has both old and new codes. Could both old and new codes in the document come to haunt me later?
-
Where Zotero is misleading is that when one cancels the process of updating codes in the middle, and begins that process again without closing word, it seems to remember the changes, advancing past the items you've updated to the new items. It does …
-
I've discovered the problem! I have too many footnotes to update in one sitting! The automated zotero process that brings the codes into line with the items doesn't record the change for the FIRST item until ALL OF THE FOOTNOTES have found pro…

By the way, the symptom is exactly the same now that I'm fully synced from when I was not synced at all. I think syncing is a red herring.

Dan? Do those codes tell you anything?

I refreshed zotero in the document, showed zotero where in the database the first two references were, refreshed again and it skipped to the third. Tried codes for those in my firefox, and still invalid ID. Saved document as new name.docx. Refreshed…

alt+9 worked to get codes. I tried a few different codes, but never was able to get a report. just "invalid ID" in my firefox window.
-
Adamsmith: I've saved it as a .doc and a .docx. Dan Stillman: I'm in Word 2007, using fields. Zotero preferences prevent me from choosing the other option of bookmarks (it's greyed out). Right clicking on the reference in the text yields nothi…

Problem persists after library is syncing with zotero server. I open my Word document. I hit zotero refresh. It goes to the first zotero footnote, and reports that the item no longer exists, and after I locate it for zotero, it continues to the…

I closed firefox and reopened and it synced in seconds.
-
Does syncing take hours? I've got less than 300 items.
-
Even if export/import fails to preserve item IDs, does it disable those items from ever having item IDs in the future? My items cannot seem to save item IDs now. Also, I'm trying to sync, but the green circle arrow never stops turning. Is that …

I'm using Chicago full-note-with-bib style.
-
It was never clear to me until this moment that an entry need not have a title. The title is inevitably in italics or quotes, but if one disregards the title field, one need not have anything in quotes or italics. Problem solved. My next…

If I do that, is there a simple way to make these listings appear in a different bibliography? I must have published and unpublished sources listed on separate pages in the bibliography. If I only had a few listings of unpublished records I could ha…

So what you're saying, adamsmith, is that if I have fifty manuscript documents in one archival box, I can't make one zotero item listing for the box, then mark the documents as prefix/suffixes, rather I must create fifty zotero manuscript item listi…
