DS: "you can still rename files from the parent metadata after changes (and in Zotero 8, it will automatically update the filenames after edits)" What does "after changes" mean? Which changes? And what does "after edits" mean? Which edits? I gather…

I agree with Tare2. I think this is the wrong decision by Zotero programmers. I am disappointed with the inability to Rename File from Parent Data. I also often attach more than one pdf to an item, and I like the main text to be visible as author-da…

ah I tried searching in a few different Notes and it freezes in the long ones, not the short ones. In fact, it 'pre-freezes', that is, it will not even show the first letter I type. Of course, the long Notes are the ones I need to do word-searches i…

I now have Zotero 6.0.20, yet any kind of search in a Note (whether Ctrl-F or using the Search icon) still causes Zotero to freeze. This has been going on for me for a long time.
-
I have about 4800 items, but I don't know if that includes notes and pdfs. So I will try to not Ctrl-F but use the search icon instead?
-
I am getting a complete freeze in a large standalone note but cannot submit a Debug report because of course I can't get back into Help to submit it, and have to close the program. I presume you can work within my library. The large standalone note …

D1016636436 it took a couple of tries in different notes, but I got the wheel the third time, although it didn't freeze completely just took a while

Sorry, can only give you the make and model HP EliteBook x360 1020 G2 Where will I find a Debug ID?
-
I don't know why typing a Return in a note is delayed and can also stall the program.
-
Yes seems to be worse with long notes. Didn't have this with the earlier version of Zotero; I could do Ctrl-F in notes of any length and there would be no delay as I typed the search term. If it freezes and grays out (which it has been doing all day…

If I click Ctrl-F in a Note and start typing in the search bar, the typing does not appear, or only the first letter or two. Then I get a spinning blue wheel for a long time. Finally the screen grays out and says in the top L bar "(not responding)".…

I have since found that pressing 'return' while typing in a note causes a freeze.

But I will have to try again soon, because I can't enter 1000s of footnotes manually in Word after I export from Scrivener :-/
-
Thanks, Adam. Yes I worked out it was a problem with the Libre Office add-on. I also found that document you linked to, and began to work through the instructions. I ran into a warning about closing Libre Office because of some conflict (can't recal…

I think it is because I can't install the Libre Office add-on to Zotero. I get error messages, have to try to install manually, and then I get another (Java) error message. It has been doing this to me for five years through three different laptops,…

I guess I am just used to Scrivener, and now in a PhD can't risk trying to switch tools. Never heard of LaTeX.
-
No, I am adding them manually in Word because I can't get the Zotero buttons to work in Libre Office.
-
Thanks for your explanations to this point. I am inserting the footnotes manually in Word, as I have done for years :-( I can't give up on Scrivener for writing, could never go back to Word for managing such a large complex text. But the interface w…

Ah, OK, so that's what I did (for lack of a combined RTF/ODF scan option). And then I got a Libre Office (citations) doc with live footnote fields! But then, as explained above, I have 'dead' Zotero buttons. Seems I cannot properly install the Libre…

Sorry, it didn't update with your reply here, so I didn't see it. I have this kind of scan marker { | Jarvis, 1936 | | |zu:568285:UAXZUWFG}

I see in the Cite tab of Zotero preferences (under Wordprocessors) it tells me that Libre Office add-in is not installed and prompts me to install it. So I click on that, and it comes up with an error message saying: "Installation could not be comp…
-
Ah, I see there is an RTF option in the dropdown menu under under Tools, and also an ODF option. These are not combined as RTF/ODF. Should they be? This is where I think I have got stuck before... unable to get RTF/ODF together.
-
This paragraph in your RTF/OTF instructions page seems to be outdated now: "Then, select RTF/ODF Scan in Zotero's gear/action menu. Select ODF (to citations) as file type, select your saved .odt file as the input file, and set a target destination …
-
I cannot see RTF/ODF scan: only RTF on one line, and then *two* ODFS on the next two lines (I think I installed it twice). I have never (over some years) managed to get RTF/ODF scan option installed in Zotero. This time, as before, I had to install …

As per the previous comment, here is the step in your RTF-ODF instructions that I am stuck at: Setting a Citation Style Now open the converted document — by default it will have (citation) in its file name — in LibreOffice. In the toolbar of the Zo…
-
I am unable to set the citation style in Libre Office. The Zotero plugin icons are visible but not active, that is, if I click on them they do not drop down any options or respond. I have tried over the last few years to use this RTF-ODF function wi…

Thanks for raising this again and for the answers. I need to bookmark this thread. I am nearing the end of my PhD thesis writing and so far I have just sent drafts to my supervisors with the ftnts still in scannable cite code. I have been worried re…

How do I downgrade Zotero?
-
I have a Masters thesis to format, hundreds of citations that need to be converted from Scannable Cite in Word. I have never done this before and have been reading all the instructions. I have updated to Zotero 5.0.57, checked that I have the RTF/OD…

As with the complaints of flahe128 and AMomentOfMusic above, I am also now not able to drag and drop a scannable cite. Is this a bug?
