Amend that: A simple paste into a field doesn't work, but Attach Link to URL adds it as if it were an attachment, which works fine. Sorry for the misinformation.

PS: I keep all pdfs, including downloaded books from Internet Archive, Gutenberg, etc., in DevonThink where they are filed with related material, easily accessible, and searchable. But since this thread has me thinking about identifying and locati…

I have never entered types like blog post et al., in Zotero (never say never), and have never seen downloaded metadata that has anything in the Loc in Archive field, so it might be fine for my purposes. I also liked it because it makes sense as a na…

Thx jvoros. Another good suggestion. I might use both -- easy to assign a color tag to indicate something other than a physical book, and then type in an identifying abbreviation for the location. I'm trying it out using "Loc. in Archive" as the fie…

Thanks ezellohar -- that's a great idea! I assigned a colored tag named Digital to all pdfs and ebooks and it does the job nicely. And now I no longer need to have the column Edition in the center pane -- it often has metadata I don't need to see …

For me personally, know where to look for the book -- on my shelf or in my computer. Perhaps it isn't important to anyone else, and I do have a workaround, so no biggie.

An eBook is "a unique publication format" From Wikipedia in the article about ISBNs: "An ISBN is assigned to each separate edition and variation (except reprintings) of a publication. For example, an e-book, a paperback and a hardcover edition of …

Thanks for the quick response and info, but still confused; perhaps you'd be good enough to set me straight: If I buy a Kindle eBook, no DOI # is shown in Product Details. They provide the ASIN; not useful. They provide the Page Numbers Source ISB…

I need a field for eBooks. Is it there and I've missed it? Can I make one?

Thanks for the explanation; didn't hover long enough. Wish they'd just provided the info about right click without having to hang around an extra nanosecond or two to see it. Instead, I spent at least 15 loooonnggg minutes looking for how to do it…

Thank you -- Firefox wouldn't download it, but Safari asked my permission to download from GitHub and that worked.

Done. So far so good! Thanks for your prompt help.

Is that true if I have My Library data on my hard drive, not on the Zotero website?

I'm having the same problem. Used Migration Assistant to change to new computer. Now have one copy of app in Applications, but two copies open. One icon is in the usual place in my dock, the other is to the right, next to trash, where things that I …

Thanks again for your input; now the Year column makes sense (just tested it). But as long as we are talking about columns and Info fields, what about Medium/Format? It would make sense to use that for eBooks, etc., but here again, there is no inpu…

Thanks for the info adamsmith. However, if I put multiple lines in the Extra field, they will all show up in the column in the center pane, if shown. I'm on a laptop, so definitely not enough real estate available for that. (I can barely fit in Cr…

I'm delighted to know an Original Pub Date field will be available soon. The Extra field does not work as well because some imported metadata puts the name of a library, or an OCLC or DOI in there. I am puzzled by the Year column, an option in th…

I am writing historical fiction which requires extensive research. I am not as concerned with citation formats as others in the Forum; more important is to know where to look for a particular item in my library or computer. I use the Edition field…

I 'm new to Zotero and like it very much. However, I'm a novelist and work with historical materials. I do not need to export a bibliography, but I do need a field for "Original Publication Date" for sorting, and wish Zotero would add a field for th…
