The other option (which is admittedly unfortunate) is to use only Zotero's quick copy function to produce footnotes to your clipboard, and paste them into zotero. This lets you have ultimate control over how your footnotes look. The price is that…

For what it's worth I experienced the same agonizingly slow add times today, adding article metadata from EBSCOHOST. (On a relatively low spec machine 900 MHz / 384M Ram, with a database of 1150 items). It is often sluggish, but this really did ap…

It's true that when Zotero is 'working' Firefox is generally unresponsive, and some operations can take some time, particularly with large collections, but 60 seconds is extreme. Perhaps post a little more datail: Does it do this with every site (…

What you are describing is a "Book in a multi-volume set," which is similar but not identical to "Book in a series" (some cases could go either way, but a series is generally more open ended). Zotero does not have explicit support for "Book in a m…

A clarification: The original suggestion was for an expansion of Zotero's internal quick-copy only (not for use with word processor plugins, which should certainly automate the difference). It would be a way of allowing easy citation-insertion usin…

There is a ticket for this.

Right. Me too, though note that any really useful implementation seems quite a big task, since online metadata (in my experience) varies widely in quality. I very often (as you said) have to combine elements form two different records for the same…

I wasn't going to respond since I don't have any specific suggestions for you. But since no one else has jumped on board, here are a few ideas: You might want to think about what you most want to do on your PDA. Zotero basically does the followin…

No. Zotero won't import Endnote output styles. For now if you can't use the existing Zotero styles, you will have to write your own in CSL or wait. The developers hope to release more styles soon, and eventually an easier way to write them.
-
Series Titles also need to be able to be abbreviated. (Would it be possible to add place for it in the database/UI even now?) And it's probably worth adding to this discussion that the use of abbreviations for some fields will depend on the prefe…

Perhaps you can clarify this for me a little bit. You mean you'd like to be able to see the biblical _text_ when you mouseover a verse _reference_ in a web page? This kind of thing might be possible as a Firefox plugin, and (like other such plugin…

Sorry for the length of the above post. With hardly any formatting, it's a bit of a slog to make it through. I'd be keen to hear reports of others trying to use Zotero for SBL-styled documents using Zotero's Chicago style. It looks as if I may be…

Zotero currently supports Chicago Manual of Style in both foot/endnote and author-date styles. Turabian is based on these, though I haven't compared the two in detail to see if there are any differences. Are you thinking (or can you find) any thin…

RE: "including something in the bibliography without citing it." I don't know, since I'm not (yet) a regular user of the Word plugin, but it would be great if both that and the converse were possible. My style guide (an implementationh of Chicago…

To my knowledge nothing like an override exists at the moment. Are you pretty keen to use Zotero's auto-cite Word plugin for all your citations? If not, you could of course just enter citations for that one reference manually '(HP).' You'd only n…

erazlogo: thanks for that. Starting all searches with a double quote (no need to finish it off) is quick and perfect... and perhaps documented somewhere that eluded me.
-
I second this request. I have 1100 records on a 900Mhz thinkpad, and I've given up using quicksearch since it's so awkward to type the search terms blind (blind because the computer can't keep up.) It was great when I had a few hundred records and…

You're welcome. Hope you figure it out. Unless I'm mistaken, Zotero itself doesn't come anywhere near cookies, so I doubt it could even be related to the problem. My best guess (short of privacy-clearing programs) would be some sort of bug in the …

It occurred to me later that by Scholar you must have meant "Google Scholar." It may be that you need to take up your questions on its own support forum (perhaps there is something in Google groups?). What you describe seems like a cookie problem.…

Another suggestion for further discussion: A "develops ideas of" B (that is he considers himself to have taken up the same conversation or line of enquiry) This could perhaps be put more succinctly.

Not to dispute the usefulness of your suggestion (on which it would be interested to hear what others have to say), but do you know that you can do those searches you describe (If I understand them correctly) very neatly using the advanced search di…

By "library links" do you mean the OpenURL resolvers? I'm also not sure what you mean by "Scholar's" preferences.

Melani99: It's true that the database gets slower as it gets bigger, though waiting minutes to insert a footnote does sound extreme. I have about 1100 items, and it can take 10-15 seconds to do certain database operations (especially involving tag…

A report is also an HTML page. Just take a snapshot of it, then view the snapshot. Presto, annotation tools.

tiddlywiki is very cool: portable and easy to backup and use, but may not scale well for those "many many" notes you're talking about. I'm not up on the current discussion, however, so this may be rubbish. It's easy enough to test, though, if you …

I'm no RIS expert, but my reading of the spec is that TI and T1 (and perhaps BT) are treated equivalently, and T2 is used for a second title contained in the entry (the title of a containing work), similarly for T3. So it will do you no good. Ye…

Too bad. I was wondering if the Extra field might be a place for the interim storage of details (about the original edition of a published book, say) which might need to make it into my bibliography, but which currently has no place in the data mod…

I think it should, and have the option for Series Abbreviations as well.

Thanks very much for this, Dan. I'll post here if I have any sucess.

Wow, this is very cool. I haven't seen it mentioned before. Note that in Win XP/FF 2.0.0.7 the pulldown menu is about 4 pixels high. It works, but it's easy to miss.
