I'm trying to offer some assistance to a librarian who wants to make an extensive Biblical Studies library available to Zotero, and would in particular to export series numbers as part of the bibliographic records, since they are commonly used for b…

Stray punctuation bugs (2) and (3) still not fixed.

Quick Copy is what you get when you have one or more items selected in your data base and you press CTRL-ALT-C (or ? CMD-ALT-C on mac?). It copies the bibliographic citations of your default format to the clipboard. It is a quick and cheerful way …

Does OneNote have any 'field' functionality? I haven't seen OneNote 2007, but the earlier version didn't have any way to insert fields, nor did it have footnote support, which would make the process used by Zotero's current Word plugin unusable in …

Bug (1) ". creator" in Author field is now fixed, by Shirley at copac. She fixed it in the single record display a year ago, but forgot to change the multiple record display until now. She intends to attempt a fix to the others soon. Thanks.

Well, no, 'not too hard' in this case only means 'well documented' and 'pretty logical.' It does still take knowledge of some programming concepts. You can appreciate that the set of people who (a) have access to ATLAS and (b) can do JavaScript…
-
Yes, this would be a very nice addition, especially if it can auto-download the associated PDFs. I suppose one limitation in getting it done is that you have to find a developer who has access to ATLAS (without going through OVID or EBSCOhost, whic…

You're right, all three bugs still exist. I just sent off another email to the (generally responsive) people at, copac@mimas.ac.uk, the COPAC help desk. Unfortunately, though the COPAC help desk is responsive to users, their development seems to g…

Wow, I've been cursing that silly number all this time and didn't know about CTRL-SHIFT-A. I'm very glad for it. (Now if there were anOTHER shortcut key for short citations, that would be great. As it is you have to either switch your preferences…

Thanks, noksagt for the corrections. It's nice to know the situation is not as bleak as I thought.

ben and gal, Unfortunately there is no way to do this automatically, for the simple reason that (unless I'm wrong) there is no consistent standard for storing metadata or document IDs within PDFs. Sure, some individual article databases may hav…

This only deals with part of the question at hand, but Acrobat Pro can batch-process Image-based PDFs into Image-based-PDFs-with-a-plaintext-layer (the searchable PDFs you want for Zotero). There's a description of the process here: http://www…

Bump. It'd be great to have these get imported automatically. In most contexts I need the series numbers when I cite. The problem may be with non-standard cataloging, (I don't know the specs on series numbers). Still, I've looked at a few MA…

As we used to say, "Jinx erazlogo. You owe me a coke."

Test out the 'Include URL' pref on the Export tab of Zotero preferences, and see if it gives the behavior you want. It has been added since the above discussion.

#2 exists already. Take a snapshot, click on it within your library, and you'll see the annotation toolbar.

Since we have a note wishlist going, I'd love to be able to take notes on academic discussions in the following way: 1. Take notes on the flow of the argument in the source (book, article, etc). The order of the argument gets preserved. Ideal…

Items can go in multiple collections, just like they can have multiple tags, which I think solves your problem.

Thanks. Very glad also to hear about the hope for series title abbreviations!

The more I think about this, the more I like it. There are two parts to the idea: (1) A post-processor which would read documents in an extensible number of input formats. It would use your local Zotero database to turn citation references (p…
-
Hmm, I wonder if Zotero (or really CSL) needs a generic post-processor that can turn some kind of mini-markup {{Smith, 2000, AFewAmbiguity-ResolvingTitleWords}} into real citations. RefWorks does postprocessing like this for RTF files, AFAIK, but i…

An interesting idea. I've also thought that some kind of Tiddlywiki-Zotero interaction/hybridization would be useful. For example, the tiddlywiki way of presenting notes (views are possible with more than one note per screen), has an advantage tha…

@erazlogo re:the SBL style. The link you reposted above is to the student supplement to the SBL styleguide, which is useful for its treatment of books in series, etc. But not the full spec That can be found at this link, also posted above on a for…

@CB: I like the idea very much. Your list is a good start: headings, lists, emphasis and blockquotes. The ability to "reference" a database item (either a top-level bibliographic item, or another note, wiki-style) would be a boon. External links …

I expect that's what it is. And a limit seems a good idea. If you're making a huge bibliography, it's not too much work to just do an export.
-
Would you really rather get all the pages of a JSTOR article separately? I think one of the best features of Zotero is that it can get (1) biblibliographic information, and (2) the high-quality PDF from JSTOR... in a single click. Then the PDF is …

I notice this problem, too, even on a relatively brisk new machine with lots of RAM. (Under Win XP SP2).

There is a preference for this on the Export tab in Zotero's pref dialog. It works correctly for me in Chicago. Seems to be smart, too. It cites the URL if there is no page range given, and omits it if there is. Is that what you get?
-
I agree. Is this possible? That would be a nice way to "add" support for a helpful note editing features to Zotero (auto indent, ASCII bullets). And it would make it possible to set my system up so that a keypress would bring the editor to the fr…

@tadoslav - at the moment, this thread is as good a place as any. There's no official channel for these thing. Basically you're just making it as easy as possible for someone to tweak the Chicago styles as needed to create a set of SBL styles. If…
