• I just tried adding the same PDF to Zotero again (without annotations), adding several annotations, and exporting again. The export worked. This indicates that the problem is with one of the annotations rather than the underlying PDF.

• I thought that maybe including an emoji in an annotation was the problem, but I tested exporting a different document with an emoji annotation that worked fine (although Chrome does not display emojis in annotations, apparently).
