Trashing it did the job. There is no longer a content type for Adobe PDF document, which works for pdf.js. (There does not appear to be a way to remove entries from the Firefox preference Content tab) Thanks.

I do have that checked. I do wonder if I have to do something about the mime types in Firefox, but since I changed nothing lately, that should not be a problem. (Currently it is "Always ask", but I guess pdf.js overrides that.)

I just saw that simonster's pull request on this issue has been merged and closed. That should make pdf.js work for zotero again. https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/pull/2937 But with latest github version of pdf.js (0.8.105) and Zotero 4.0…

Thanks semeniuk for the suggestion. I did not think of this as a bug, but a feature request where Zotero could somehow fool Word not to change other fields' field code. And according to Simon, who is a Zotero developer, this should not be happe…

Same on two Mac machines, 10.6.8 and 10.7.5, both using latest pdf.js nightly (0.7.313). Can confirm that going back to pdf.js 0.7.1 fixes it. Unfortunately, the latest pdf.js stable (0.7.236) does not. Not Zotero's fault probably, but we all d…

I imagined. I agree 100% that pdf.js is not mature. Fingers crossed.

Thank you, Simon. As usual, you guys are on top of it.

This issue has reappeared for me. Zotero has recently reverted to saving htmls rather than pdfs. Since there were no updates to Zotero as this happened, I assume it was an update to pdf-js that caused this, possibly in their 0.6 branch. I am us…

Interesting. I have pretty much the same preferences settings. And everything appeared to work fine, but when I created an item from a springerlink.com article as you did, I did observe the issue you are describing! (I usually create all my zotero i…

Yes, I have "Enable proxy redirection" and "Automatically recognize proxied resources" clicked on, but not "Disable proxy redirection when my domain name contains ..." For my "Configured Proxies", I have "Hostname" as Multi-Site and a scheme fo…

Just to add one more datapoint, I had been having the same problem. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.laneproxy.stanford.edu/pubmed/20731387 should have been stored as http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20731387 but it wasn't. I have h…

Yes, I still have the same problem, and have not been able to pin down the exact circumstances. And yes, it is still an annoyance that I would love to see go away.

Nope, I am not using a numbered citation style. However, after some testing I realized I observe this phenomenon sometimes only. It may have to do with inserting new citations for previously cited items which triggers this, or using Mac Word in…

With Zotero 3.0.3, I can confirm that both the fixes work. Great! Thank you, Simon. There is one extremely minor point: When the pdf is attached to a Zotero entry from pdf-js, its name is the full http address, instead of the pdf file name. Som…

Thanks, Simon. That would resolve the problem hagenlab reports, and would be a huge help. Is there any solution for the second problem? Otherwise, one has to download the pdf to disk and manually attach it to a Zotero entry.
-
I have the same issue as hagenlab, but more. Since I am a Mac firefox user, and there is no satisfactory plugin for pdf's on Firefox for Macs (Adobe does not support it, and the PDF plugin from Schubert|it is mediocre and not free for everyone)…

Thanks Simon, I will stop worrying and love the code.

On a similar note, how can I know that Word Integration plug-in really updated? I don't know much about AppleScript, a way to check I am truly updating the zotero scripts in Word might give some confirmation...

I just did the update from Open Office Integration 3.0.a1 to a2. It seems to have gone through fine on the Firefox end (no errors), but the Open Office Extension Manager says I have 3.0.a1. I deleted the extension both in OOo and Firefox, and instal…

Thanks Simon, that solved the Open Office integration problem. Engin

I updated to 3.0.a2 from 3.0.a1. I first got an error in Firefox saying "MS Word Integration error", also saying that Firefox will attempt to fix it if I restart. Which I did, and that fixed the integration problem. Thanks for the fast pace of upd…

Nope, that is exactly the add-on I installed on Firefox. I reinstalled and triple-checked. The .xpi file is a Mozilla extension installer zip file, and I assume it is supposed to write a plugin to my relevant Office user directory. I have the c…

I am going to second the point about misfiring Retrieve Metadata for PDF functionality, and the suggested solution from Papers. Comparing the two, Zotero comes up with incorrect or incomplete metadata much more often (I have actually not seen Papers…

Yes, I can confirm that on an ACS journal, Biochemistry.

For example, http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=twin+statistics+stanley+e&hl=en&lr=&btnG=Search If I try to save the first hit on this page it fails. Or this, where there is only one hit on the page: http://scholar.googl…

rmjanjua, I do not save my PDFs any specific way any more, now that I'm using zotero. But I see your point. Simon, It does make me wonder, however, how other software manages accuracy in metadata retreival (I am specifically thinking …

Sorry for the false alarm. For some reason I could not modify pdfs in my zotero library this morning. It is all good and well now. I am using 1.5a by the way.

I have to second rmjanjua on his comment. Metadata retrieved is very inaccurate in cases when Google Scholar is used as the repository. Can we set the repository for data retreival to something else? Honestly as a biochemist, >99.5% of article…

Thank you Dan. I am now using the alpha build that has the retrieve metadata from pdf function. And it works great, as good as Papers or better. I hope 1.5 gets released as soon as possible, so that I can advertise it to my colleagues.
