(3) Just switched to 3.0b3, and (1) yes, still giving an error. Maybe it's specific to edits I just made? I'm not sure that I've done anything unusual -- just added a few hundred references. (2) I apologize. Responded.

Sorry for the late reply. I did not need to do any reset or restore. After several more attempts on the 13th, everything synced okay.
