For Firefox, but strangely, I just went back into the item after working on other things and it happily created a new author field. Strange! Thanks for your help anyway - if there are further difficulties I'll check into the add-ons.

Apologies; I should have said! I'm using Zotero 2.0.9, and MS Office 2003. I only just realised that my university is using such an old version of Office. Maybe that's part of the problem?
