Is there workarounds? Like stripping the "a", "an" and "the" and reading the value in a different variable which can then be used as a sort order.

I totally agree that the loops are messy. However, I didn't want to mess up with the original Chicago (Author0Date) style, as ours is a slight variation to that. Thanks.
