About TinyMCE, I believe this problem is not really a bug but because TinyMCE expects to be embedded in html content. Whereas zotero is part of the firefox "chrome". There are other things that don't work as they normally would, like firefox's bu…

The developers have responded. Sorry to nitpic but the question was about an "estimated date" - to which "eventually" (in a year-old thread) is not much of a response. As ajlyon notes, there are quite obvious reasons for some organizations to ru…

this question has come up repeatedly but I've never seen a response from the developers.

Agree - for me this is by far the single biggest lack in zotero. I also agree about what constitutes core functionality here and what does not, but of course different people have different ideas there. Precisely for that reason I would politel…

It would be hard to make significant changes to the protocol once institutions start installing their own Zotero servers. I'm not a developer either, but I'd like to point out that this is not a problem as long as server and client release cycles a…

I strongly agree. It would be great to have some process by which users can help define and prioritize new features. As discussed in this thread there are very easy implementation options. Short of that, at least publish some sort of release pl…

Is this intermittent or always? If intermittent might be this firefox bug, very annoying. Work-around: minimize ff window and restore. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/368966 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/…

OK, for me the operation above seems to consistently cause a problem. This is on ubuntu 9.10 64-bit firefox 3.5.7, running a new profile with no plugins except zotero, and a library with just a couple test items. - right click on an item, add note…

Looks like we're all Linux users. I may have a use case to reproduce what may be the issue, with a brand new library, no other plugins. Unfortunately I can't test this carefully right now but here it is: - right click on an item, new note - edit …

This may be more serious than I thought. Some notes I entered yesterday are gone. Some really important notes. Looks like the missing notes aren't on the server or in any of my backups. That could be unrelated to the problem in this thread, whi…

I've started seeing something similar to what bdarcus described, sporadically but quite regularly. Additionally with existing notes, when I select the note (either in the item list expanded "tree", or from the notes tab), nothing happens. Double-c…

A little late here but I had similar issues with a new install. Ultimately the problem was the (silent) dependency on the java plugin. To reiterate, the java PLUGIN which is a separate package from java.

Also on Linux I see half of this problem, the less problematic half. When I create a note by right-clicking on the item in the middle pane, sometimes the note is created but not opened up in TinyMCE. This happens quite often but sporadically and…

Frank, you're right. Image tags do work, I didn't exactly test thoroughly. To clarify adamsmith's comment above, the SRC attribute of the IMG tag should use the file:// protocol to point to an image on the local file system, or http:// to access …

I have a little different take on this. I'm just another user, but have thought a bit about how to use zotero effectively for note-taking. Ed, with all due respect, your use of zotero sounds to me highly unusual and not really as-intended. Actual…

me too. would be nice if it "remembered" the previous arrangement.

somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but when the server source is released it will be possible to run the whole show in house. The question has come up before, some people want to run their own servers, for a variety of reasons.

Two suggestions: (1) Install the Extended Copy Menu add-on for Firefox. This adds a "copy as plain text" menu item. (2) If you're moderately technical you can modify the html editor various ways. One thing I've done is change it to include a "pa…

FWIW I believe the OP can change the the title of a thread. Speaking hypothetically, he or she could change it to something transgressive and attention-grabbing. Being in a transgressive mood myself I'll follow up on a parenthetical comment in my …

I would help out with something like that. I consider myself as a FoZ. :-) mark is right it would be easy to set up, and I think enormously beneficial for all if everyone bought in (and even if not everyone bought in, but I'll hold off on that…

Agree something like Ideas would be great. Unfortunately it looks like Ideas itself is not open source. In another thread somebody suggested Dell's http://www.ideastorm.com/ - which looks pretty much like a blog with a ranking system. That coul…

One simple enhancement here would be the ability to easily apply the html blockquote tag (with suitable default styling). Just another option in the styles dropdown. jpoveda, some workarounds: * title: first line of the note * quote/paraphras…

Another 9.10 upgrade here with no apparent zotero problems.

ah, I see... I did think about using the abstract/extra field that way in a custom style. It would be nice to have a "canned" annotation. I've also tried the approach of generating bibs (or sections thereof) from collections or tagged items. But…

Dan, thanks for the comments. Is there a standard data set for testing/debugging? That would be one way to determine if rhett has some other problem vs. database too big / hardware too weak. rhett, if you're interested I can try out your database…

I'm interested in this as I often want to produce similar documents (classified, annotated bibliographies). I see how this would work with rdfscan but don't quite follow the other suggestion (generate bib and paste). Specifically how this deals …

IINAD but just want to highlight there are two separate issues here. (1) supporting book sections properly, in the data model via hierarchical items. This feature has apparently been planned for a long time but I don't know when it might be implem…

I have a similar netbook (eee pc 901) running Ubuntu, library is only 1200-some items, zero pdfs. (I decided a while back for various reasons not to use the pdf-related features.) Right now Zotero is slow but usable on that netbook. But my seat-o…

To clarify, I think kozirro has conflicts between ALT-letter keyboard shortcuts and ALT-letter combinations where ALT is the compose key. You might be able to change the compose key behavior. For example, I have my keyboard set so that the right…

A real-world example of what lucas describes (real-world for historians) would be tagging by period. i.e. a tag like "1920s" could belong to "inter-war period" and "20th century." I would love that.
