• to solve that I simply downloaded the latest .tar.bz2 version of zotero from the download page, extracted using dtrx and, after running the executable (either by clicking it or typing zotero from the command line from the directory it was extracted)…

• @ lgbouma: did not work using the command you've mentioned, I am also getting the same error message that I cannot update zotero automatically
