Could you send the PDF file to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
-
Can you reproduce this issue in the Firefox PDF reader (since the Zotero reader is based on it)?
-
I can't reproduce that issue, but it might be related to system fonts. You could try using Zotero Beta to see if the problem persists.
-
How large are those PDF files, and how many pages do they have? Could you upload one of them somewhere and send a link to support@zotero.org together with a link to this thread?
-
@ygz0515 There is a chance this issue has been fixed in Zotero Beta. Could you verify and confirm?
-
Zotero Beta should be faster at this, if you aren't using it yet.
-
You can increase the font size in the Zotero UI via View → Font Size → Bigger. However, the text box shown in the screenshot is from a plugin, so you'll need to contact the plugin's developer if you're experiencing issues.
-
Do you mean Zotero itself crashes and quits completely?
-
Can you provide a Debug ID for it happening?

@poettli Do you see that in 8.0-beta.16?
-
@pjm56z There's no standard way to add tags to PDF annotations. However, we add a custom field /Zotero:Tags to annotations. If you have development-related questions, please post them in the zotero-dev group.
-
It will be fixed soon. Thanks for reporting.

Zotero attempts to remove duplicate characters when they are identical. However, in this PDF the characters have slightly different positions, so this behavior cannot be corrected automatically.
-
@kplunk5 Try opening the PDF file in a different PDF viewer and copy the same text. If it's still garbled, then the issue is with the PDF file itself.
-
Try using the 64-bit version of Zotero.

Annotations are inserted into Zotero notes in this format: {highlight}} {{citation}} {{comment}}. Note annotations only have a comment which by default appears at the end. But if you really want to change, you can do so by modifying the note annotat…
-
You can't disable it for text annotations only, but you can disable it everywhere from note-editor context menu or the annotation comment context menu (in Zotero 8 beta).
-
This is a bug. Thanks for not giving up and reporting it again. We now have a fix, and it will be available in one of the upcoming Zotero 8 beta updates.
-
Note that on macOS it's possible to select text and press Ctrl+Cmd+D while hovering over it to show the default lookup popup.
-
This means the text layer is incomplete, and the PDF needs to be re-OCRed.
-
This is planned.
-
The file is indeed corrupted. You can try resaving it with another PDF viewer to fix it.

Which Zotero Desktop version is that?
-
Does the highlighting work properly if you open this PDF in another PDF viewer?
-
Those who experience this issue should also test Zotero 8 beta with all plugins disabled. Additionally, you should try the same PDF files on Firefox PDF reader (as Zotero is based on it).

Do you see the annotations when you open the PDF with an external viewer on Desktop (Right-click the item → Show File)? If not, make sure the file is actually synced to your Desktop.
