Yes, but the problem is if a style doesn't want a director be treated as a substitute for author. For example MLA: "If you are writing about a film or television series without focusing on an individual's contribution, begin with the title. You can …

they use an awkward workaround where they test for motion_picture and then assume author=director Yes, that's odd and I'd prefer not having to implement this...

Good to hear that this will improve. Thanks for your work!

While there is indeed no way to get this with CSL 1.0.1 proper you might want to have a look at Juris-M and its extended CSL-M grammar (both by @fbennett). Some of these features might be of interest for your use case. 1. CSL-M knows an item type …

That's a tough one. I don't think there's an easy way to handle these kind of requirements. Currently, there isn't even an official way to handle this on a style basis. That said, there are hackish and unsupported ways that you can use if you are ed…
-
Just to add to @bwiernik's comment: There are actually two ways to deal with this requirement: 1. You can use multiple layout elements. This is jm-chicago-fullnote-bibliography-polyglot does. This will change all locales for a reference. 2. If you n…

It's possible with csl-m.

Turabian 9 isn't there yet. I suggest you use Chicago manual of style 17th edition until this becomes available.
-
Yeah. Sure. I can do that and file a pull request. (But perhaps we should first try to reach a general agreement if this is how these cases should be handled...)
-
That would work. But MLA usually requests titles in italics in these cases. Currently titles appear in quotes if we have a `container-title`.
-
Not possible at the moment. And certainly tricky to implement. But also not impossible to implement either. (It can be done with Citavi. So it must be possible somehow.)
-
The location lookup feature in Citavi is indeed quite handy. That's why I've written a Zotero addon (https://github.com/UB-Bern/zotero-swissbib-bb-locations) that implements a poor-man's version of this for our library catalog (https://baselbern.swi…

Not solved yet. There has been much progress in the background, but the new features are still not available in the current release.

While this feature dies not exist in the official Zotero, the Zotero fork Juris-M has a abbreviation filter that provides exactly the feature you ask for. @fbennett @dstillman Is there any chance the abbreviation filter or a similar feature can be b…
-
You can try the Zotero derivative Juris-M that provides such a feature through an abbreviation filter. (@fbennett Would be great if this filter worked again in vanilla Zotero...)
-
Hmm, looks like I wanted to be too clever... @adamsmith @fbennett can't we use html comments with CSL?

If we can believe this page (https://www.zotero.org/support/tips_and_tricks), the option key should do the trick...

You select one item - press ctrl - the containing collection will be highlighted. But you'll have to do this for each reference... not so convenient. Having this information available somewhere else would be indeed much better.

Press ctrl

Well, I don't want to push you into doing something you don't want to, but as I've said before you can also try Juris-M. I understand that you don't want to learn a new program, but Juris-M is a Zotero derivative, almost everything looks exactly the…

@mcorona1401 Which style do you need exactly: a) Chicago style in notes: first note full reference; all others with shorttitles b) Chicago style in notes: all notes with shorttitles In case you need b) => this should do what you want: https://…

Oh, and Juris-M (a Zotero fork) has an additional option to suppress trailing punctuation.
-
You can use the affixes to enter additional information (in the citation dialog press control+downarrow).
-
@Abualgeth I can't see your code, but yes, that should pretty much all that is needed.

Look here: https://our.law.nagoya-u.ac.jp/updater/styles/jm-chicago-fullnote-bibliography-polyglot.csl You'll find various examples in the citation and bibliography elements. For example on line 1976-1978 This will use Russian locales for …
