@fbennett: Some kind of pass-through seems more good enough to me. The biggest downside would be the inability to sort them as dates within Zotero, correct? From the perspective of people writing, that's a small price to pay for correct citation,…

May I suggest that if you take the plunge, the exceptions will start to roll in of their own accord? It might be impossible to predict everything people are going to want?

Thank you, that's good news. Another problem I can think of is the "Old Style" or Julian calendar, in which the new year starts in March. In the case of England prior to 1750, the year in dates between January and March was, and still is, often…

I have what appears to be a related concern. I work with very old items, which quite often cannot be precisely dated. It happens most of all with manuscripts, but very frequently with printed material, too. I'm eager for date ranges, but using "c…

Thank you. My needs are different from and less complex than mc's, however; I use Zotero in part to avoid printing things. I got here searching for other forums inquiring about "multiple call numbers." I think many of us use more than one library…

Multiple call numbers are still very high on my wishlist (see http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/8129/libray-of-congresslc-subject-headings/). As I get further into my research and move around more, the idea becomes more and more attractive. Than…

Nobody ever got back to him... I went looking for this sort of error because I was also perplexed by my inability to add a citation. Looking at this hodge podge of error messages kind of confirms what I was thinking: you can't add or edit citati…

Great! I don't know what I was doing wrong, but it works now. Thanks!
-
Yes, thanks, although I first had to turn off auto syncing and restart a couple of times. The relational aspect is maybe my favorite feature right now, but as long as it's a known "defect" I'll live!
-
That's a good tip, but nothing is syncing right now. More data: I've just noticed that when I add a note from the right-hand Notes pane, clicking on the resulting note icon also does nothing. I didn't say, but I'm also up-to-date on Firefox.
-
Hm... I can't get it to happen right now, but I'll watch and remember to report back. Since I was using Zotero at the exact moment, I didn't know what else it could be. Thank you.
-
I don't understand what you think the problem is, but the most obvious choice is Download Statusbar, which has been around for like 7 years. It's very useful. Are you suggesting that I have to get rid of it if it keeps happening?
-
Correction: this continues under 2.0, having been a problem under the last rc. It seems to happen only on my XP netbook and never on my Macbook, even though I do all my big changes and uploads on the faster machine. I sync manually on the netbook…

This is great news. In simple terms, I would love it if saved searches behaved like regular sub-folders/collections, which they already look like. One question about the Ticket: when it says "make subcollections out of them," I hope they would re…

I think a dedicated tab would be useful sometimes, but the separate window behavior is more important to me personally. I seem to do a lot of side-by-side comparison, copying, and transcription, for which you really need a free-floating window. It…
-
I think I figured this out: import to the open collection seems to work only if you have Zotero running in the same window (and tab?) as the page you are importing from. I almost never work like that, because I like/need to see both catalog entrie…

sorry, but honestly, i don't have time for that. if you read my original post, i suggested the very feature and behavior you have been re-describing. it's not that big a deal--if it's already supposed to work, i'm satisfied it will at some later d…

I know how it works, thank you. It simply does not.

Not mine: 2.0b7.2, Mac, Firefox 3.5.3.

Hi, I don't have time at the moment to file a report, but might this problem be acting up again? I've been unable to sync since late last night. I have a local backup, at least. Thank you.
-
I've learned to use the search box to narrow down the field; it's ok for now, but it is still pretty confusing. It's hard sometimes to provide a distinctive term from memory.
-
At least it stores the "extra" information, in the meantime. That's good.
-
I'd really like to see this implemented, also: it's one of the main reasons I dumped Endnote. It's easier to fix manually with Zotero, but the risk of missing one and looking ignorant remains. I'm glad it's being looked at.

I have a question about the tag selector (2.0b6.4): it appears that the tag layout in the selector does not adjust to match the current width of its pane. Does it sit on a field of fixed width? I can't seem to see some of my tags whatever I do. …

Thanks for thinking this through. Would we hopefully have room for normal call numbers, too? I really like that idea about having as many as you want (for different libraries). I'd love it if both the call number for the record you're looking at …

I am trying very hard not to be snipey, I assure you. I'm sorry if I appeared so. I don't think it helps. Far from being sarcastic, I was trying to make a sincere argument: an academic often needs to go from one's notes to an actual, brick and m…

At least until the rest of the physical world adopts your forward-looking ideas on information management, those of us who research in libraries are stuck with what you find obsolete.
-
I think some might tire of the suggestion that the old ways are wrong and "overblown," and should be abandoned. They have uses you might, to some, appear unwilling to acknowledge or understand. I think a method of importing the information into a …

let me conclude by saying that there are literally centuries of practice behind these systems. they have endured this long for a reason.

in any case, this information is valuable to me, and obviously others. it's not right to just drop it entirely out of belief in the power of tagging.
