If you are running Mac OS X 10.6, you can upgrade to Firefox 4, which will fix the hangs. Otherwise, you can try reverting to Zotero 2.1.1 (which may or may not help), or wait until Zotero 2.1.3 is released, which will hopefully be later today.
-
You won''t have to do anything special when you upgrade to Firefox 4, but you should manually install Zotero 2.1.3 and the associated Word plug-in from the zotero.org front page when it is released, hopefully later today.
-
See here. It would be great if you could try what I've posted there and let me know if it fixes the issue. Alternatively, if you are running Mac OS X 10.6 or later, you can upgrade to Firefox 4, which will almost certainly fix the problem.

allenpa, your issue is different. You are running the 2.1 branch build instead of the official release. You're running Firefox 4, so the official release should work fine, and is generally more stable than the branch builds. Unless you have a specif…

See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/17283/unable-to-citate-after-downloading-212-on-mac-using-firefox-36/#Item_4, or update to Firefox 4.

You're running Zotero OpenOffice Integration 3.1b1. Try 3.5a1.
-
Can you try downloading the Zotero 2.1 Branch XPI and the MacWord Integration Trunk XPI? I think we have a fix for this, but it needs a little more testing.
-
What operating system? Can you provide a report ID?
-
There wasn't really a bug, just optimizations that didn't make it into 3.5a1. In particular, we were doing a lot more round trips between OpenOffice.org and Firefox than were necessary. (We were doing two round trips per field while reading data in.…

Zotero 2.1.2 is now available with a fix for this. You may want to change this setting back, since it will slow Firefox down a little bit.
-
Also, if you downgrade, you'll need to install the older WinWord plugin.
-
The branch XPI is no longer necessary; just update to Zotero 2.1.2. If this doesn't help and you have the chance, it would also be great if you could first try the WinWord Integration Trunk XPI before downgrading to 2.0.9.
-
The majority of the overhead comes from Word for Mac, which becomes very slow at retrieving field codes with large documents. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about this. One option would be to split up your document into separate parts, an…

Can you try installing the WinWord Integration Trunk XPI and see if it fixes things? Also, if that doesn't work, can you see whether there's a difference in Firefox 4?
-
This is now fixed in Zotero 2.1.2.

Right, but that only affects the pane. In a separate window, AFAIK, Zotero has always saved on exit (in addition to saving while the note is edited).
-
I did some optimizations that should improve performance. The code is not especially well-tested, but if you'd like to give it a try (on a backup copy of your document), you can install the OpenOffice Integration Trunk XPI. Let me know if it speeds …

As far as I know, we didn't change this, and Zotero has always saved notes upon exit when editing in a separate window. Why wouldn't you want this?

Zotero 2.1.2 is now available. You can download it from http://zotero.org/ or choose "Check for Updates" in the Firefox add-on manager.

If you can upgrade to Firefox 4, it might be faster. There are also some optimizations that we plan on making to integration. FWIW, we have greatly improved integration performance since the thread you dug up. I'm not sure what a Pentium V is, but …

This will be fixed in 2.1.2, which will probably be out later today. You'll have to upgrade the older copy of your document.

Try disabling Zotero MacWord Integration, restarting Firefox, and then doing the install. Let us know if that works.

nicblockley, can you generate a report ID after you click the install button again?

Zotero's proxy support only works with URL rewriting proxies, primarily EZProxy-based. These are servers that allow you to access e.g. JSTOR through your network by going to http://www.jstor.org.ezproxy.myuniversity.edu/. It won't work with the kind…
