@martynas_b: That is quite uncommon in Japanese academic documents. I believe that's true for all the variants of Chinese and Korean as well, but I'm not expert enough to comment on that with confidence. Don't know if it's helpful, but in Japanese,…

Follow up: I created a short screen recording (under 20sec) showing a typical example of how, in many vertical-text documents: 1. Highlights don't show for both text selection and annotation 2. Selected and annotated text don't match https://youtu…

Thanks as always to the Zotero team for being so responsive to user needs and feedback!

With all due respect to @martynas_b, Zotero struggles more than other readers with vertical OCRed text, even when it is perfectly aligned on the vertical axis. For example, a Japanese file OCRed in Acrobat is often highlightable in readers other th…

Does anyone have a better way to contact CMS? No response, and the question has not been published.

Submitted. Will update if I hear anything.

@adamsmith Frank may be correct, as evidenced by style guides prepared by and for Asianists: https://wiki.ubc.ca/images/9/9f/Japanese_CMS.pdf HIDA Norio 飛田範夫. Nihon teien no shokusaishi 日本庭園の植栽史. Kyoto: Kyoto University Press 京都大学学…

@adamsmith, a follow up: I tested these styles: Taylor & Francis - Chicago Manual of Style (author-date) Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (author-date) Chicago Manual of Style 16th edition (author-date) All of them correctly omit the comma…

Update: 1. Zotero worked fine with document exported to Word (.docx) 2. Was able to add citation properly from the footnote. In other words: 1) insert footnote first, then add citation (don't add citation from document body text).

Thank you @adamsmith! 14.72 was the missing piece of that puzzle for me. (Is there a way to batch find-replace "Japanese" with "ja-JP" in the Language field?)

@dstillman Report ID: 1839107265 Interestingly, I disabled all third-party add-ons, restarted, and then added them back in one by one and the problem never re-emerged. Curioser and curioser, but either way it seems to be okay for now. I'll post t…

Thanks @bwiernik ! I know this post was from four years ago, but I just found it now and appreciate the simple solution.

+1 Backend differences notwithstanding, the Annotator community plugin for Obsidian (https://github.com/elias-sundqvist/obsidian-annotator) is an excellent example of how this might work.

Bug still present in 6.0.9 (if I'm understanding the OP's comment correctly). Steps 1. Edit page number 2. All pages Results - Existing page numbers are changed. - Future page numbers are not. Workaround - Fix page numbers only after completing …

+1 @sw2090 is right that this is a major impediment to Zotero adoption. I was an early adopted of the multilingual Zotero fork back in the day, and I loved it. I was sorry to see it go. And while I am genuinely amazed at the work of my former c…

@dstillman Test 1 Conditions: 1. Add-ons enabled (Better BibTex, DOI Manager, Zotfile, Zutilo) 2. Fresh restart, 1 tab open Results: CPU spikes when highlighting (40-105%, vs. 2.5-4.5% when inactive) Test 2 Conditions: 1. Add-ons disabled (all) 2.…

Can confirm similar issue since 6.0.8 at least. Zotero is currently the only app experiencing this sluggishness on my machine.

Haven't had a chance to test this on the Air, but switching to English fixes the issue on the Pro (macOS 12.0.1 (21A559)). And yes, it immediately breaks if I switch back to Japanese.

EDIT/ADDITION So, now 5.0.96.2 doesn't work either (MacBook Pro). I'll try to downgrade Word and see if that helps, but it looks like that's a pretty heavy lift (at least on a Mac). Any advice would be appreciated. For reference, Word is currently …

Update: Sorry for the delay. The trackpad on the (Japan-bought) Air died and I couldn't use it for a while. Now that that is fixed, I updated it to 5.0.96.3. Works as advertised. 5.0.96.3 still doesn't work on the (Norway-bought) Pro. I updated an…

Rollback of Zotero to 5.0.96.2 worked. Back to citing as usual. Thanks for the link; saved me the trouble of rooting around for it, which is much appreciated!

Brand new MacBook Pro bought through my uni here in Norway just two months ago. However, I cannot reproduce the error on a MacBook Air purchased in Japan (and with macOS in Japanese) but with Zotero not fully updated. MacOS 11.6 (20G165) Word 16.53…

Thanks again, @adomasven . I'll try to roll back the latest Word update and see if that helps. If it doesn't, later, when I have some time, I could test what happens if I switch to some other languages I'm comfortable in (French, Norwegian, maybe …

Thank you for following up. For reference, I've been using Zotero in MacOS set to Japanese since at least 2010, and this is the first time this error has occurred. I suppose there's no way to know what "system-specific" issues are causing this p…

Changing my system to English does seem to have alleviated the problem. Thank you! However, having the system in English is not ideal. Is there another workaround?
-
@adomasven, do you mean changing the system language?

Same error as @stubbsrl. Cannot insert citations. Both the keyboard shortcut and Ribbon item cause a Visual Basic error. The error dialog is hidden (visible only with Mission Control) and cannot be interacted with. It also makes Word impossible to…

Thanks @qqbb, I'll check that out. * For anyone else considering this, do note the prominent warning on the beta download page that it might corrupt or delete your database.
