• Ok, solved it sorry for taking up space. In preferences, I turned off showing field codes. So somehow, in Word, I switched field codes on. This might help others: preferences->view->click box with field codes Again, Mac Word 2008

• If I might add, now whenever I add a new citation, it switches to field codes in the entire document!
