Owo. Confirming that beta.185 solves the issue. No more crashing and style switching works! Thank you for your extremely quick reaction. Good luck with the last push out of beta. It is turning out to be quite an awesome release.

Just to be sure I have triggered the error and submitted the Debug ID: D851532213. The reference from the original post causes the trouble. I have copied my text to a new document in incremental iterations, and switched styles. Once the "Ramírez Val…

Confirming that on a new document I can insert the formerly problematic reference (even if it is the only one) and no crashes are experienced when using the updated extension. Great job. I'll try to identify the next problem and report back. Is it o…

The hard crash I had been experiencing seems to be gone with the updated extension. Cheers! Unfortunately the new version still doesn't allow me to change from a numbered style to a "spelled" style, presenting the following error: ``` Zotero experi…

Ok, thanks. In that case I'll withheld my "regression testing". If you still need more info on this by the end of the week let me know and I'll save a bit of the weekend for that.

Ok, I'll try on my old laptop with older versions of LO and see if that solves the issue. But I'm not entirely sure how far I can go "back in time" in order to find the problem. I don't think I have had JRE enabled in LO for quite a while now, so ma…

Thank you @adomasven! The workaround works on a new document, but I still get the same error when changing the bilbiography style from "BMC Bioinformatics" (numbered references) to "Molecular Ecology" (text references). I'll have to investigate furt…

It's been 6 days and no reply. I guess this post could have been "swallowed" by the many others, but I think it might be an important issue to track, since it affects the beta version, so I'm bumping it.
-
@fbennet It's OK! We all make mistakes. It's what we do about it that matters. This case was an example of quick response, just like

Thank you, @dstillman and @adamsmith ! Latest beta (5.0-beta.179+2160b1c) solves the issue.

At least we are now on the right track. Is there a more formal project bug tracker where this can be submitted? Also, is there any known workaround so I can submit this paper (other than typing the stuff in manually - maybe adding an empty second au…

Yes! Here is another reference that provokes the same error: https://transfer.sh/ziqnd/1000_genomes.rdf It's also single author. Can you reproduce this?

So I seem to have tracked down the problem using a new document, one citation at a time. I have a citation for GNU R which seems to be immediately trigger the bug as soon as I add it to the document. This can happen either by copying & pasting f…

I'm trying to rebuild the document paragraph by paragraph and see if I can track the problem. Doing it in halves was resulting in crashes, so I'm now trying this approach. I'll post any other feedback I may have until @dstillman can look at this.

Follow up: Copy & paste into a new document does allow me some more room: In the new document, if I try to set the preferences, I get the error and in the bibliography section I get the "{Citation}" field, but no text. So I took another step. I …

Yes, new documents work fine. I can insert citations, add bibliography, set preferences and all works fine. Thanks for looking it up.

Update: This is occurring even after I copied and pasted all the text to a new document (field codes included)...

Ok, so I figured out by trial & error what the bug circumstances were - a very old "nautilus.desktop" file rotting in my "~/.local/share/applications" directory was causing this. Everything is now normal. Once again, thank you for the input.…

Ok, so the problem is a bug in gvfs-open (which gets called by "xdg-open", that zotero relies upon) not honouring the mime-types under some corner case circumstances. I have reverted to using "enlightenment_open" which seems to successfully work a…

Thanks again. I'll report back when it's solved. Cheers!
-
Ok, I guess that will have to do. I'll start with that and go from there. Thanks for the (extremely quick, I might add) assistance!

@Dan_Stillman Humm... is there any way I can debug what happens **after** the launch() call? Anyway I can see what program launch() is calling at least? I suppose if it is a system setting thing I can quickly get to the bottom of it.
-
@Dan_Stillman Yes, and it did not work for me. Would a debug log **after** deleting that file and restarting Zotero be of any use?

Oh, sorry, I forgot to add: This is ArchLinux. I'm using Gnome-shell as my main DE, but under Enlightenment the issue still occurrs.
