Well, that's definitely the issue. Unfortunately my computer isn't allowing me to change the read-only setting---it let's me do so, but shifts it back. Very frustrating...

Yes, it seems as though Zotero is functioning. Just gives me the error on sync-ing that I can't get to go away.

I'm a little confused, I've used Zotero for three years now and have never had a zotero field be gray after I'd inserted the citation. The grey color only showed up when I highlighted the citation, not being there for every citation all the time. Ha…

actually I spoke too soon. the document crashed again after my fourth citation inserted...there is a long string where it basically says a field code in the document is corrupted.
