Unless you can reproduce this with a mouse it's likely that you are accidentally clicking/tapping the touchpad when you drop the items which is what's causing the collection to switch.

That's set in Word preferences? If you go into the Developer tab in Word and click "Word Add-ins" do you see the same location for the Zotero.dotm file, and it's the same file that you opened before to copy the Visual Basic code?

We've never seen something like this but this seems like a Google Auth bug. Could you try revoking Zotero access to your account at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions then restart your browser and try using Zotero in Google Docs again?
