Thanks. I treated it as a selection in a book, but ended up adding it manually.

OK. I re-downloaded Zotero, re-added Word plug-in, restarted Word, and refresh works again to remove dashes. Apparently when Word requires updates, one needs to reinstall Zotero and plug-ins.

Using Word for Mac 16.23 (version 190309). Should I re-download Zotero?

Now my citation disappeared. Please help. I am really pressed for time, and need this functionality desperately. Thanks much

Now my whole document crashed. I'll force quit and try this and let you know. OK; doc back up. Yes, active citation. But I just now moved on to a different citation and the same thing happens.
-
In document preferences, I have disabled automatic updating as suggested, but still nothing happens when I refresh--can't remove those dashes.
-
Nothing happens. The dashes remain, and they do show up in printed version. I know my citation style is correct, and I need this dashes removed. Thanks
-
Refresh worked. Thanks.
-
I thought so. I need the doc in Word, as that's how it is sent to my advisor. Thanks much.

I currently have "Automatically update citations" unchecked. I clicked on refresh, and the dashes disappeared after some updating occurred. I would like to insert my citations without updating, and without seeing dashes. I just want to type the te…

FWIW, the Juris-M link for Mac updates yields a 404 error message. But thanks anyway.

@stillman: Thank you for the advice. FWIW, I did not "demean or belittle." I merely expressed frustration with a feature that has caused me much delay. Again, I much appreciate Zotero. At the same time, I suggested that you charge us a de minimis…

Questions: (1) Because of the way I work--e.g., a committee member wants no ibids. until the final recension--I already use Zotero solely as a running bibliography. (I don't use track changes). After the first footnoted reference for a particula…

dstillman-- (1) I rarely post (2) If it's the same issue, please fix it so that it doesn't repeat (3) I am sure there are many other people out there with the same problem; perhaps they just give up and leave Zotero (4) A little constructive criti…

The beta worked like a charm! I do need to modify citations manually to account for transliteration conventions. If you can, please integrate this change into the new version to stop the global update. Thanks.
-
adomasven: Thanks; I'll try with the Beta first, and then the "No" option. I'll let you all know what happens.

I got this right after: Zotero experienced an error updating your document. The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1712.) @[displayAlert:document.m:186]
-
This is what I get: You have modified this citation since Zotero generated it. Do you want to keep your modifications and prevent future updates? Clicking "Yes" will prevent Zotero from updating this citation if you add additional citations, switc…

I would rather pay, and not have to constantly worry about fixes. I believe my forum etiquette is just fine--voicing a complaint is not a breach of etiquette. I do not want to waste my time taking screenshots, etc.--this is not the purpose of tech…

Seems to be fixed. I restarted computer. Will update if I run into trouble again.
-
I have the same problem! Did anything work for you?
-
I even looked in your forum and couldn't find a solution. Please help.

Thanks so much. For this reason, I am only using Zotero now for the first reference of a source, to maintain a running bibliography for my dissertation. For all other footnotes, I insert the reference the "old-fashioned" way--by hand, per Chicago …
-
I will also be sure to warn my graduate student colleagues to avoid using Zotero until this mess is resolved.
-
And in response to your post, there have been NO changes made to the citations covered by the Zotero message. To continue my workflow without screwing up my notes, I can only add in new entries (to maintain the running bibliography) and unfortunate…
-
When I add an entirely new entry, its fine. But when I cite to a previously cited one, every 2nd cite or so, I get the "request for modification" message, going back to page 1, footnote 1, and asking this question of every single citation, making s…
-
That's OK, but why does Zotero go back, MONTHS later, to ask about citations that were NOT manually edited, and then proceed to go through EVERY citation separately, FROM PAGE 1 OF THE DOCUMENT? I have MANY, MANY references. Is there a way to fix th…
-
I did edit them manually. I am using the latest version of Zotero. I cite very liberally, and do not have the time or the inclination to go back and chnage my manual changes. Technology should save time, not waste it.
-
I keep backups. Don't have time for Zotero shenanigans. Will edit chapter by hand and change ref manager going forward.

Thank you. I will try this if it happens again.
