Thanks for your help. I redid the citations again... but this time as a .docx and now it works, finally!

Unfortunately, alt+F9 still does not do anything. Is there a menu option I can navigate to, rather than using the hotkeys? OpenText document is the default file type in Word 2016, in case anyone experiences this.

Hmm, I created this document in Word and just click "save". However, looking at the document type, it says that it is an OpenDocument Text file (.odt). As for the codes, I do not see any when I press alt+F9.

**Update** Okay, there is something wrong here. I just went and redid all my references and all was working as expected. I saved the Word document, closed it, reopened it and I have the same issue again... Word 2016 is not remembering my Biblio…
