yes, that is the error message. Removed the extensions, restarted both. It looks like Zotero is re-indexing my local library. I'll need to install the latex extension again. But no change in the error message.

unfortunately I tried the XML import. while this imported my references it did not import my pdf's (which were in the same folder. So I was able to do the manual import of pdfs into a separate group, and now I need to copy them over and link them.…

If I can recover the library I certainly will try this. But if not, I'm stuck just trying to import the pdf's (of course loosing the references that don't have attachments).
